I want to make the Akita pants with an elastic waistband instead of the drawstring. Will this change cause fitting problems?

Hello, the Akira Pattern includes elastic and drawstring in the waistband. So you can remove the drawstring if desired and it won't effect the fit.

Is there any way you can make this delicious range available for download? The shipping to Australia is going to be horrendously expensive, and just takes too much grocery money out of my budget.

Thanks for letting us know about your desire for this pattern to be available as a digital download. At this time we don't have this available for digital download.

If I want to make this wrap without pockets or tie and short to my hips in a size 4/6 how much fabric would I need? I'm looking for an open boxy short cardigan.

When adjusting and personalising patterns like this, the most accurate way to calculate the yardage would be to lay your pattern pieces in a mock pattern layout on a flat surface and measure the length they take up.

Greetings, I see where those who posted, and particularly those who sent photos, love this pattern. The set made from Autumn Gold with the teal drawstring is especially effective. However, when I saw the e-mail subject of "A Stylish Pattern & A Bevy of Linen Lovelies!", I opened the message while picturing a more tailored design. Instead, this is yet another baggy design with a drawstring, similar to others that the Fabric Store favors. Can you recommend a more tailored pattern with an actual zipper and less bagginess? Thank you for your time.

Please take a look at our Riva pattern collection which is more in line with the design elements you are looking for.

Does this offer come with the fabric required to assemble the outfits?

This is for the pattern only, no fabric is included.

I am wondering why the wrap requires 3 yards and the cardigan 2 1/4 yards even though the finished garment measurements are the same for both.

Hello, the Wrap is longer than the Cardigan :)

Impressed with This Pattern

I need to replace much of my clothing after a mold infestation in my previous townhome. At the same time, I want to use natural fabrics and update my look, and this pattern offers that opportunity. The pattern arrived in great shape thanks to packaging and the sturdy storage tube. The pattern booklet is full of solid information on producing the clothing. I am still setting up in my current tiny cottage, but have a large breakfast island/cutting table so I can begin sewing as soon as I gather my tools. I have the lightweight linen to make the cardigan, but I haven't decided on the length.

Best Robe Pattern!

I used 4C22 Mix Natural to make the wrap pattern into a robe. I added 2 inches to the length of the long cardigan (same pieces as the wrap, just longer). It's perfect. This fabric feels luscious and I will be making more things with it. Truly the best robe ever. I can't wait to make the capris and a cardigan.

Favorite tunic

This is so casual and comfortable. I find that I am throwing it on over shorts, pants of almost any type. I am planning to make the longer version next.

First pattern purchase from FS

I've been making home decor items with the linen fabric from Fabrics-Store, and truly love the fabric. I'm addicted. I wanted to try a clothing item so I purchased the Akira pattern special with three yards of fine bleached linen and decided to make the pants first. I'm happy with the instructions but the pattern was very big, even the smallest size. I'm 5'2", small frame, 115lbs. I used the Capri length for full length pants and still had to shorten. I also had to shorten the crotch to waistband by almost four inches. I'm happy with my pants after many adjustments, but I'm a bit hesitant to try other patterns if they all run this big. How about a petite sizing in the patterns? The details in the pattern pockets are lovely. The overall look is very nice with the soft linen that came with the pattern. I'll be more conscious going forward of sizing with these patterns if I decide to try something else.

Akira short cardigan (no tie) using hand-blocked cotton. Love the Akira pattern! I wanted something lightweight and colorful to coordinate with the many solid linen pants I have made. This kimono style was the perfect choice to wear over tank tops to cover my arms even in the summer heat.

Akira short cardigan made with Desert Sand linen and embellished for a mother-of-the-bride outfit with a 1920's vibe.

Leatha • May 19, 2023

I made the FS Akira cardigan pattern in the IL097 Double-sided Breeze Cobalt / White. I extended the sleeves to be long, omitted the ties, shortened the body slightly. I cut the fabric on grain except for the neckband which I cut in the cross-grain for a bit of visual interest. I love how deep the pockets are in this pattern and how soft and snuggly, and also breeze-y the fabric is. Oh, and I also used my serger instead of french seams.

I was looking for a way to start this pattern review but the truth is, I will not beat around the bush and simply say: The AKIRA collection is a must-have in every handmade wardrobe! This pattern bundle includes a belted wrap top and a tie-front cardigan as well as an elasticized drawstring waist pant. All three patterns are loose fitting but not too oversized which I highly appreciate. I think the ease is the perfect equation between comfort and elegance which makes this collection very versatile. Before starting this project, I could easily picture myself wearing an AKIRA set either at home, enjoying a warm and cozy moment with a cup of tea, or outside for a beautiful layered outfit.

I made the Akira pants with this "towel" fabric. The pattern gives plenty of ease, I made these in size 4 instead of 10 as was recommended for my waist size since I have no hips, lol! It was so easy to work with! I just started making garments a few months ago and had not made pants since 8th grade home-ec, 38 years ago. The directions & photo explanation booklet made it very easy. I've now made 4 pairs all with different variations. I did flat felled seams in these. The heavier weight will make these last forever & after washing & drying they are so soft & comfortable!
