IL019 All-purpose Black Fs Signature Finish - 100% Linen - Medium (5.3 oz/yd2)
Darkness pervades Tacita Dean's artworks, falling over craggy rocks and epic mountains into inky, bottomless wells. BLACK Linen shares Dean's endless black, a colour that intensifies mystery and drama, cloaking and concealing everything it touches.
At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 59 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.
Our FS Signature Finish was developed exclusively for us using a special process that makes this linen super soft with a comfy, classic look you'll love at first sight.
As a bonus, this process removes almost all of the initial shrinkage, giving you more fabric to get your projects done.
This finish makes the linen as soft as butter. Yep, 100% linen that feels and drapes and sews as no linen you have ever encountered. Because the fabric has been pre-shrunk for you - it will be less than the base cloth width.

I made trousers and a top for my daughter's wedding with this beautiful black linen. I decided to make a matching kimono jacket but I needed to wait for it to go on sale. Hooray! It went on sale so I can finish the ensemble. I love the Signature Finish.
Quick & short review...Buy more! Next purchase will be an entire bolt of this fabric. It is stellar! Best price and customer service, can't be beat. 10 stars!
This was my first fabric-store purchase and I'm SO happy I finally ordered! This is a true black that drapes nicely and I can't wait to wear my new jumpsuit I made, once the weather cools down a bit!
I was really surprised by how much my black signature fabric faded compared to the photos of other reviewers. I washed it once in cool water with plant based detergent, rinsed twice and did one more wash cycle in cool without detergent and one rinse. I dried it until only damp on a low setting. Not sure how to keep that rich black color. I love the quality of fabrics-store linen, but I think I will stick with colors that won't matter to me if they've faded.
This fabric is absolutely beautiful. I washed and dried it fully on hot prior to using so it would shrink (if any) prior to my sewing my dress. Absolutely the softest, flowiest fabric for a dress. Love it!!
I made a magical extra pocket! The belt is adjustable by wooden buttons so that it can be worn high on the waist or lower on the hips, depending on the outfit. Inside, it has tiny pockets for credit cards, cash, and pens. It fits my phone, keys, and wallet all at the same time! I lined it with black cotton, and added some fun embroidery and patchwork on top. I sell these pockets on my website at charliedarwintextiles.com !
For my fabric, I chose the Signature Black Linen in Medium Weight. Deciding on a colour was honestly the most difficult part of the process! The Akira set would look so great in absolutely any colour of the rainbow. I ended up choosing black because of the great childhood memories I have visiting cosmetic counters! I always wanted to dress in all black, like the inspiring makeup artists I looked up to. Later on, as a teenager, I began working in the hair and beauty industry myself, so wearing black became part of my regular attire.
