What's the finished length for the 0/2 size? All I see in the pattern are finished waist and hip measurements.

Alia • April 1, 2024
Lauren profile image F|S Team

I'm sorry our designer has not listed this in the pattern. You can measure the length and adjust as needed by assembling the paper pattern, and measuring the pattern pieces, and subtracting seam allowance to ascertain the length.

Christophe.

Hello, the test square is exactly 2" and should be measured as such. As for sizing, we recommend comparing your body measurements to the size chart to find your best size.

I have difficulty figuring out the right side of the fabric, specifically, the linens. Is the label affixed to the "right" or "wrong" side? TYIA.

Diane • August 13, 2023

The 100% linen fabrics and plain woven fabrics do not have a discernable right or wrong side.

Are these pants drafted for someone with a larger derrière and wide hips ? So many pants are made for people with narrow hips and a flatter behind and I would like to know before attempting to make the pattern. If not, are there options or alteration lines on the pattern for a larger bottom ? Thank you !

very intrigued to try one of your pants patterns. could you kindly point out the differences between SARA and ALENA? I'm not shure if I have figured it out.

Elisa • August 12, 2022
Lauren profile image F|S Team

Sure thing, these are the differences: Alena does not have a photographed tutorial, only written instructions. Alena is available in sizes 0 - 30, and Sara is available in duo sizes 0/2 - 28/30. The pocket opening on the Alena is slightly curved, and the Sara is diagonal. The waistband on the Alena is contoured, whereas the Sara is flat. The Alena features a straight leg, but the Sara is slightly tapered. The fit of the Alena is more fitted and the Sara is more relaxed.

Awesome when you figure out your size!

I loved this project, but found that the sizes weren't quite right. My measurements are 27 inches for the waist and 37 inches for the hips. According to the size chart, I should have opted for size 4/6, but it was way too big! I'm judging from a person's photo, but I don't understand how the model can wear size 4/6 with 3/8" seam allowances for the sample. Shouldn't it have been too big for her too? On the other hand, size 0/2 was perfect for me! Gotta love the high waisted pants. I only modified the seam allowances: 5/8" for the outside leg seam and for the waistband. I kept the 3/8" for the inside leg seam, as mentioned in the instructions. I also shortened the bottom of the pants to accommodate my 5 feet 2 inches. The instructions were very clear and easy to follow. Perfect for a first zipper fly attempt. Overall, I recommend this free pattern, thank you!

Perfect !!

Thank you for this pattern, I made it really easily (except for the fly which has always been a little bit tricky for me :)). The instructions are really clear and understandable with pictures of each steps. I love my new pair of pants and alrealdy plan on making a second one.

Perfect!

I loved the instructions and the pattern. Everything came together so nicely in the end, I learned a bunch of new things and I love the pants! Thank you for providing all those materials for free! There's really one tiny opportunity for improvement, from a European point of view: I think it could come in handy for some people if you included the measurements also in the metric units :)

I loved sewing these pants. I have made size 4/6 .The pants are super comfortable and leggy.i pared them with a shirt of the same fabric to make it a coordinated set.thanku Fabrics-store for putting this pattern.i appreciate it.

Sanjay • August 20, 2023

The Sara pants fit the bill for on trend linen pants. They bridge the gap between straight leg and wide leg - basically perfect. The only change I made was to convert the front pleat to a dart. Love this pattern!

Second attempt at a pair of pants. My first attempt was about 20 years ago. I decided to make these a "draft" pair as I get back into the swing of things again, so I bought super cheap fabric (thin cotton from Walmart). I definitely cut the pattern too big (was feeling fat when I chose the size, haha). Took in another seam allowance on the outsides before the waistband, and the waist is sitting super high. But all in all, I'm happy with how it turned out. I will wear them to work on the days that I workout at lunch because then I can wear my tights underneath. Will definitely make these again with proper linen (and a size or 2 smaller). I messed up on step 15 when I didn't match the notches of the waistband (but rather just took the center point and matched that with the back seam) and then sewed the fly backing back into the waistband (which essentially left no place for the button. But, I improvised by unpicking the fly backing to bring it back out behind the zipper, and then just sewing another square onto the waistband where the button should go. Looking forward to doing this again with the linen that was recommended! Thanks for a fun weekend project, team Fabrics Store!

SARA Pants made with FS BLEACHED Heavyweight Avocado Dyed Linen. I found the directions and construction clear and easy to follow. I learned a new way to construct a zipper fly and wound up sewing the most flawless zipper fly of my sewing life. The belt loops were also constructed in a cleaner way than other patterns I have sewn before, so these pants taught me a number of tricks I will be using in the future. I'll be wearing my SARA's to work, the park with my kids, on weekend library trips, grocery shopping, brisk fall walks and dressed up with a heel silk tank and a pop lip. They are classic, versatile, extremely wearable, and a well constructed sew. You can read more about this project here: blog.fabrics-store.com/2021/10/14/pattern-review-avocado-dyed-sara-pleated-pants/
