Fabric By The Yard $16.53

Bleached color is achieved by "stripping" the natural pigment out of the fibers( just like you would with bleaching hair). What you are left with is a very soft shade that is just ever so slightly an off-white color.
Bleached is the basics of any project and loves being dyed. It is actually what we use to dye the colors. A truly versatile base and a must-have addition to your fabric repertoire.

At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

Would the IL019 be the best weight for making swaddling blankets for newborns? We live in an area where the summer temperatures are quite high (100° or higher) and I want to take advantage of linen's reputation as a comfortable hot weather fabric.

Margaret • August 10, 2024
Lauren profile image F|S Team

I'd try our IL020 for a light weight and breathable swaddling fabric.

I want to make a linen throw. What weight would be appropriate and should I make it two layers?

Debra • October 13, 2022
Maureen profile image F|S Team

Typically you can use any of our linens for a throw, but it will come down to the look, feel color or pattern you are wanting. Layering would depend on which linen you choose. Our specialty linens such as our IL028, IL002 and Jacquard linens are also used.

Cheryl profile image Love this linen!

I plan to buy more of this as I make night gowns with it to sell and the heavy do dresses. I am learning to dye the fabric with natural dyes I find in my yards and my neighbors! I have an event coming up in March called "Linen for Lent" on fbwere I hope people will join and buy the nightgowns and dresses and shirts and were them during the 40 days. It's a place to journal their discovery. Also I post other Instagram videos of various people with dyeing practices and also processing the flax for linen.

Here I'am at Gathering of the Guilds, Portland Oregon, booth #19.April 19, 20, 21, 2024. I hand paint IL109 All purpose bleached, 5.3. Linen. After the linen is painted and dried I dip it into, Eco-Friendly Fabric Softener and redry. The name of my business is, Hand Painted Linen by Karin. I use a fluid approach when I paint, stitch and design. I'am inspired by the murmuration of birds because it reflects my creative process. See me on Instagram karin.graves.painter.designer. I am currently teaching my process.

I hand stamped bleached linen. Surface design possibilities are endless for embellishing white linen.

In July of 2022, I bought 6 yards of each of the yellow, orange and green IL084 Olivier stripes. My plan at that time was to make either placemats or towels or both for our new house. It was in November of 2022 when the house was finished and we were able to move in. At some point, I got the idea to use the fabric for curtains for our oversized pantry (aka Giganta-Pantry). This is the final result. With IL019 Bleached peeking through from the semi-sheer layer. Semi-sheer because that window faces south and gets a lot of the Texas sun.

Barbara • July 8, 2023

Used the Bleached IL019 for the "sheer" layer of our bedroom curtains. I wanted something not quite as sheer for this room. The outer curtain is IL019 All-purpose Cerulean Fs Signature Finish.
