IL019 GINGER Softened - 100% Linen - Middle (5.3 oz/yd2)
GINGER Linen's rich caramel shade filled Kurt Schwitters's art. Made
from the ephemera of his daily life in 1920s Germany, almost anything
could be thrown into the mix in torn scraps of color and texture.
Through his endlessly complex designs, pushing back and forth in a bid
for our attention, the prismatic arrangements of natural, near flesh
tones seemed somehow inherently linked to the human experience. Uniting
them was the golden-brown of Ginger which created an overriding mood of
warmth and familiarity.
At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces, this 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

Made a throw blanket following the FS throw directions and it turned out lovely. I hemmed the selvage since it was a tad ugly for a Christmas gift, which is what it'll be. Fraying the fabric was a hefty amount of work since I didn't bother with looking up a how-to. This will make a lovely light blanket for my mom who lives in SoCal where it's perpetually hot.
The IL019 softened is my favorite all purpose, go-to fabric for the majority of my projects. The Ginger color is best described as a caramel color, and is more warmer than cool in shade. This fabric had a very small amount of shrinkage, a tightly woven texture, and is a dream to work with. This came very quickly, and was packaged nicely.
This is not as ginger as the pictures show, but i decided to keep it as i can still make the items i want to. The feel.of the fabric is lovely.
I picked the FS Signature Finish linen in the color Ginger. I love love love linen and think it is such a beautiful fabric. I love the way it wrinkles and the way it wears over time. It was an honor to get to play with this fabric!
One reviewer said this has a nice golden hue. That's what I was hoping for. The piece I got is brown. More like a light cocoa brown with not a hint of yellow. Not what I expected or wanted but I will use is anyway. I wish the colors were more predictable, Sometimes the color you see online is the difference between choosing one over another, and then it turns out wrong. Disappointing.
Pat I love that post of your jacket - what an outfit with the skirt! I've bought some ginger on the strength of it thinking it might also go well with a vibrant green or blue too? Pam
I have always loved linen and decided to give this a shot. The price was amazing and I love the color. I washed it and it is so soft. I can't wait to make an asymmetrical tunic with a pattern I found on Amazon. I'm sure I will be purchasing more fabric from F/S.
This was my first purchase of this fabric. When it arrived it was a little stiff. But after washing it just once, it came out of the dryer soft as butter! The color is true to the online sample and it is dreamy to sew with. I am going to have to buy more of this fabric. In fact I'm going to do it right now! Bye!
So many years since I started sewing and this was my first use of linen! I do t know why I waited so long. Since my initial purchase and creation, I have ordered more colors and types of linen. I love checking in everyday to see what is being featured on special!
This is a lovely color fabric, and is soft and easy to sew. I always enjoy working with your materials.
Ginger, overall gorgeous color. Beautiful fabric.
I will now be purchasing enough to make the balloon pants in a Vogue Issely Miyaki pattern. The scraps from the two color dress were combined with some Doggie Bag Sphinx to make a tunic with sphinx sleeves and a ginger body, then more sphinx to make it longer and contrast pockets. Since I can never leave well enough alone, I added a lot of contrast embroidery and applique in sphinx to decorate the seams and around the neckline on the ginger. That's why I need more now to make pants to go with it! Can't resist! Pictures to follow.
I keep buying more of this because it's so inspiring. It appears to be a "mild-mannered" golden tan, but it's a rich, lively golden tan. I used it first with some scraps of chocolate to make a color-block dress to wear all year. The Yoke is the dark brown and the the body/skirt is the ginger. Then I covered buttons in both colors to accent it. The pockets are dark brown with ginger buttons and the dark brown yoke has ginger covered buttons accenting the collar and neckline. It feels wonderful to wear, is a joy to sew, doesn't need slip when it's hot, and can be worn all year!
There are a few colors that, after a wash and tumble, I carry room to room for a few days just to see it in different qualities of light. Ginger is one of these. (Dry Rose is another.) This is sumptuous linen at its best. Thank you for making it!
Today I started sewing my first project, made a pair baggy pants the material was fantastic to sew with I am convert,I will be back for more fabric
The color and weight of this lovely linen is wonderfully old world and rustic and makes a great choice for pirate pants.
The color of this fabric is actually more yellow than it appears on the website, at least on my monitor. It has a very nice feel and it looks better than I expected- I was picturing it as looking more like sacking but it is much more refined. Gorgeous!
We love using linen for our baby slings! Linen is a natural (literally) choice for babywearing items - breathable and strong. Here we have the Ginger color linen stitched in lighter tan in a decorative stitch. See other slings like this at our family shop at lilpeeperkeepers.com or lilpeeperkeepers.etsy.com.
