Can you use a floral print to make the tiered maxi skirt or is it better to use solid colors? I am new to sewing.

Of course you can use printed fabric for the skirt! It will look gorgeous.

Is the lining really necessary? I have medium weight linen (in Signature black) and would prefer not to have an extra layer of fabric in the summer. I always cut out the shorts in a skort! Thanks!

Kim • March 26, 2024
Lauren profile image F|S Team

No, you can always adjust the pattern to leave out the lining easily :)

I would like to order the Julia skirt and wrap top but would like to know what type of fabric is used. I like the poppy red shown in the pictures. Is it made out of the cotton poplin which I did not find on the site.

Harlean • November 17, 2023
Lauren profile image F|S Team

Hello, This pattern was designed and made up in our 100% Linen fabric, but you can also use our 100% cotton poplin fabrics as well. For linen, search for IL019 which is the mediumweight.

Does this top wrap completely around the back and then tie at the side or do the ties just meet at one side. It's hard to tell from the photos and diagrams of the pattern. I don't really mind either way, but I'm curious

Emydee • September 26, 2023

The ties meet at the side. :)

What color is shown in the skirt photo taken on the boat?

Leslie • August 25, 2023
Lauren profile image F|S Team

These photos were taken some time ago and we regularly update our color offerings. The closest color we have in stock for the pink is Soft Pink. Crystal Rose and Soft pink are also available on our Il019 base and are lovely light pinks.

In the email of this Julia pattern, the model is wearing a red collared version...does this exist? I'm not seeing it on the picture of the pattern or other photos. Thank you for your help. Brenda

That picture shows the skirt paired with the Abbey Blouse. That is also one of our patterns which you can find on the site by searching 'Abbey' in the search bar

My bust is 31" and AAA cup and my waist is 28". What size Julia top would you recommend. I'm short waisted also. Thank you!

Hello, You will need to grade down from a size 2 to fit your body measurements. We have a tutorial on our blog to help with that if you are unfamiliar with the process.

Hello, my fullest bust measurement is 49" and I want the wrap top to fit like the gray one shown. Which size should I purchase if I am between size 16 and 18? I think I need both sizes because my hips are 50" but I don't want he skirt to be too large. Thank you

Stephanie • March 22, 2023
Lauren profile image F|S Team

Hello, with a full bust of 49" and a hip of 50" you fit in our 18-24 size range. You may like to sew the 22 or 24 depending on how roomy you'd like your blouse and I would sew the size 18 or 20 for your skirt, again depending on how much room you'd like.

What is the recommended fabric for this pattern?

omforr@gmail.com • March 21, 2023

We love the skirt in our IL019 medium weight fabrics. The blouse looks lovely in IL020 lightweight but you could also make it in IL019 too.

It would be very helpful if you added how much material it would take to make this skirt. Also any other patterns. I want to buy some fabric to make it but don't know how much is needed.

Should I take a high body measurement for the bust or full bust measurement for the bust. I've never sewn a fabric store pattern before. Thank you!

Roshanda • September 15, 2022
Lauren profile image F|S Team

The listed body measurements are for the full bust. This is based on a B-cup at sizes 2-16 and a D-cup for sizes 18-24. If your bust size differs from these cup sizes take your high bust measurement and add 2" for a B-cup and 4" for a D-cup and use that measurement in place of your full bust. You may need to adjust the pattern if this is the case.

For the dress, I used the Julia skirt pattern. I don't know if you know the Disney movie ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame', but when I was 5 years old I wanted nothing more than to be the female main character Esmeralda. So when I saw the pattern, my inner 5 year old Sophie knew I had to give it a try. But – knowing I don't like skirts, I started this pattern with a completely different vision.

Nice idea not Practical!

I love your patterns but not so much the booklet its not practical and the price of the patterns it should come cut out already or perferated . the instructions should be on a ring so one, could easily flip through the instructions. I tell trying to put the pattern pieces back in the roll is challenging but i can deal with that. Thank you.

most spectacular pattern experience

I like to call this a good foundation pattern. It is a great advanced beginner-friendly pattern. In addition, it also provides you with a base to hack, alter and modify into a set that works for you. For example, you can shorten the bottom tier to make it a midi skirt or add volume to a sleeve to make a puff sleeve. You can also pair the set separately with jeans, shorts or a simple t-shirt to build on that holiday capsule wardrobe. I am looking forward to living in these comfy separates all summer long!

Another fun pattern. Highly recommend.

I was a bit hesitant to buy this pattern as I didn't know if was age appropriate for a middle age woman, but I love it. The wrap top and skirt are easy to make thanks to the excellent directions. I enjoy wearing the short, two-tier skirt (shown in IL019 mid weight Wisteria) with the LB Pullover top from Paper Theory (shown in 4C22 Bleached heavy weight linen). I am 5'5" and the length falls just below my knees. I like wearing the wrap top with the Akira pant and with jeans.

Mariann profile image I LOVE this top

Firstly, I have to say the drafting of the Fabrics Store patterns is exemplary. This is the 4th purchased F-S pattern I have made this Spring/Summer and am always delighted to find that things line up and very few adjustments every have to be made. When I do, it is a result of my lack of care in tracing or cutting. My first make of the Julia pattern set is a sleeveless version in the gloriously dark Dress Blue Softened IL019. From 3 yards I was able to cut 1 pair of Anna Allen Clothing Pomona pants (as calf length) I pair of the same patter as shorts, both size 14 (for hips) and a size 10 Julia top. My intent was to emulate the so popular jumpsuit look without actually being a jumpsuit. I finished the pants weeks ago but had not yet progressed to the top. Finished it this morning and it is WONDERFUL. I like the dress blue so much, I have ordered more in hopes the dye will match. I may make a wrap shirt and a mid-sleeve top to extend the season. I am definitely making more Julia tops, might lengthen a bit, I am absolutely planning to make more Julia/bottom combos. Love the look.

After considering various patterns and reading reviews, I decided to try this wrap top from the Julia collection. The step-by-step instructions were very helpful, and it was nice to contact Lauren for some additional pointers. I now have 3 of these, (a cotton print, this English Rose linen, and Chocolate linen).

Deborah • July 13, 2024

The Julia pattern collection offers up a skirt and a top, each with three different variations. I wanted to channel a bit of magical Stevie Nicks-bohemian-meets-prairie-goth, so I chose to make the longest length of the skirt comprised of three tiers for maximum effect. I think I nailed it.

Elise • January 23, 2024

The JULIA wrap top and tiered skirt collection is a gorgeous duo to make. Both pieces are beginner friendly in their construction and infinitely wearable.

Abby • July 5, 2022

The Julia skirt in mid weight Wisteria and the LB Pullover in Bleached heavy weight linen.

Dana • March 22, 2022

I am, admittedly, a creature of habit. Once I discover a style that works for me, I just add more of it to my wardrobe. This is exactly what happened when I discovered the beauty of a wrap top! For me, nothing beats the wrap top when it comes to comfort and ease. It just so feminine and flattering on any body-type as it hugs your curves in all the right places.
