Bleached color is achieved by "stripping" the natural pigment out of the fibers( just like you would with bleaching hair). What you are left with is a very soft shade that is just ever so slightly an off-white color.
Bleached is the basics of any project and loves being dyed. It is actually what we use to dye the colors. A truly versatile base and a must-have addition to your fabric repertoire.

At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 59 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

Our FS Signature Finish was developed exclusively for us using a special process that makes this linen super soft with a comfy, classic look you'll love at first sight.
As a bonus, this process removes almost all of the initial shrinkage, giving you more fabric to get your projects done.
This finish makes the linen as soft as butter. Yep, 100% linen that feels and drapes and sews as no linen you have ever encountered. Because the fabric has been pre-shrunk for you - it will be less than the base cloth width.

Is this good for making bath towels and kitchen towels?? Is it absorbent as the other linens?

Tammie • September 19, 2022

We prefer our 4C22 heavyweight which is the twin to our kitchen towel fabric, but in the wider width. We recommend this fabric in our Milos Bath Towel free pattern.

can I really expect minimal shrinkage with this fabric? I still plan to pre-wash

Jean • August 29, 2022
Maureen profile image F|S Team

Yes you can expect less than 3% shrinkage as opposed to our other linens that have a 7-10% shrinkage rate. Yes we do recommend pre-washing this to remove the residual shrinkage.

Several of our customers have used this linen with various dye methods with amazing results. We recommend testing the dye method with this linen before you start the project to make sure all is as it should be.

I love making bedding with this fabric

I tend to make extra pillow cases of this fabric. I'll buy it in large quantities when it's on sale. Then start collecting fabric from the Doggie Bag Collection. I'll build the body of the pillow case from the Bleached fabric, and do a colorful band from the doggie bag fabric. Pre-shrink everything first of course. Another project I did for a friend was a sleeping bag liner. She loved camping with her family, but all the sleeping bags were made with man-made fibers. So I made a liner out of Linen. Since sleeping bags can be quite warm in summer, I also made a top sheet she could use. Put the sleeping bag inside the liner and treat it as a mattress pad. Sleep with a linen sheet and a light blanket instead. ( The waffle weave fabric works well as a blanket. I use mine year round on my bed.)

This fabric made a strong, but lightweight and breathable ring sling. I took it to Hawaii and both the baby and I were very comfortable and not sweaty or overheating. The fabric also takes dyes very well! Prewashed with Synthrapol, ice dyed with procion professional dyes in wisteria, wedgewood blue, plum blossom, and mist gray.

I made this from a pattern that I drew myself, based on an existing shirt that I have, but I changed the proportions.

I am a huge fan of a white linen dress, so this FS pattern instantly caught my eye. The cut and silhouette was a perfect mix of class and simplicity. As someone who adores a minimalist wardrobe with classic linen pieces, I was immediately drawn to it. What intrigued me the most was the structure of the design. It has a collar, dolman sleeves and a wrap skirt. These design features make the dress quite a versatile one.

The traditional colors for Christmas outfits are white, red and green. I love these colors and try to use them for sewing clothes! I always use medium-weight linen, although I also really like linen fabrics of different weights, but I tend to use them for other purposes.
