Customer Questions and Answers
I also had the waistband come up almost 2 inches short, right at where the fly extension started. Maybe it's not the pattern, but the "you'll figure it out" approach to the instructions. There is nothing included on how the pleats are supposed to be made or how the pockets are supposed to lay in the waistband. Also, with no diagrams and minimal explanation, it can be very unclear what things like "right side of the zipper tape" means orientation-wise. Trying to follow them, I ended up with my fly in opening on the right, not left, and with the pleats and darts as shown on the pattern, the long side of the waistband fit the short side, not the extended fly side.
I've made a couple in muslins of this pattern and noticed that the Left Waistband comes up short- about 1.75" short. Did the patternmakers not include enough to cover the fly facing?
Hello, this pattern has been tested and made by many of our customers and we have not received any reports of issues with the size of the waistband.
Hello I will be sewing this pattern up and want to know the best fabric choice by weight and finish Please advise
We recommend the 1C64 softened linen for this pattern
Hi , I love this pattern , I have printed the pattern and will be sewing this weekend . Many thanks for all the effort that goes into these free patterns . Love them however I am Indian based in South Africa please can you kindly post Indian dresses .thank you
Firstly thank you for the Alena pants, it's a lovely pattern. I'm making a wearable toile and I'm stuck at sewing the waistband pieces together. Can you please explain the left and right waistband pattern pieces, do I sew them together at the straight edge of the band or the slanted end? Thank you
hello!! It is not clear to me if all the pattern pieces have seam allowance included or it is just included in the front and back pieces and I have to add the seam allowance to the rest of them. Thanks your help
Hello, the seam allowance is included for the entire pattern. :)
Hi. I have not understood if the seam allowances were already included in the pattern or if I should add them before cutting the fabric. Thanks a lot for your help !
Hi! On the main front and back pattern pieces, there is a notation mentioning that the seam allowances are included. I can see how that could be overlooked. We are hoping to update these popular patterns in the near future to have more content and tutorials.
I had no issues getting the pattern and have all my fabric cut. I've never sewn a zip fly and would love some instructions with more detail on this pattern. I see in other reviews that this one doesn't have a tutorial. I'll be making it in a cotton woven first to make sure the sizing is perfect when I use my fancy linen. Thank you!
Hi! On page 7 of this PDF there are some basic sewing instructions that go over the sewing steps. We don't have a visual step-by-step tutorial for the zip fly ( I've emailed the blog ladies and asked them to add that to our to-do list), we do have one for button fly tutorial here blog.fabrics-store.com/2018/11/30/sewing-glossary-how-to-sew-a-button-fly-tutorial/ But I am afraid it won't be enough info to get you to the finished project so please email us at ask Fabrics-store.com and Catina will be able to walk you step by step through the zip fly :)
