IL019 BLEACHED Softened - 100% Linen - Middle (5.3 oz/yd2)
Bleached color is achieved by "stripping" the natural pigment out of the fibers( just like you would with bleaching hair). What you are left with is a very soft shade that is just ever so slightly an off-white color.
Bleached is the basics of any project and loves being dyed. It is actually what we use to dye the colors. A truly versatile base and a must-have addition to your fabric repertoire.
At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces, this 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.
The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

The linen came with a very heavy sizing on it, once I washed and dried it, and the sizing washed out, the fabric surface became bubbly/wavy and slubby. Also, it is much coarser than what the description states it should be. I was going to use it for a dress but it is not suitable for that purpose. I will use it as a bathrobe most likely, or towels.
I love all the Lenin that I have gotten and they feel amazing. I also love how they are always offering deals it makes it very affordable. Please don't change a thing.
Ever since I found this linen store it's the only fabric I've bought. I love their linens. The feel, drape and quality are all amazing!
I have now bought this linen twice - once for Christmas gifts and again for myself!! The fabric washes and handles beautifully (I washed/dryed it hot, since you never know how the end user will wash it). If you like to use the "pull a thread" method of cutting, this linen works perfectly, but it is also easy to cut flat on my table. I haven't finished my gifts yet (since, well, covid) but so far it sews up like a dream! 100% recommend for anyone looking for apparel fabric!!
I love this fabric for hand dying projects. This pair of pants I made for my daughter. I dyed the fabric with a "triple berry mix" (blueberries, raspberries and blackberries) which makes a very nice soft rose color. I particularly like the extra soft feel of this fabric especially for clothing.
I've used this fabric for many apparel projects in my business and love working with it. Sewing is easy and the finished product is spectacular! Highly recommend:)
Classic white linen, with a slight yellowish cast in some light.
I used what I had left from a previous project to make this incredible tank/vest using a merchant and mills pattern that came with their workbook. I had enough to bias cut the entire shirt. It's a bit sheer but I think that is what makes this so beautiful. This fabric handles very well.
Package siitting at the FedEx in our town since Saturday. Today is Monday and if I were to believe them, FedEx will not deliver until tomorrow because "delivery is not due" So it sits there. Attempts to speak to anyone at FS were blocked by a robot phone, although I called several times within store hours. Shipping charges were quite high...fabric is heavy. Avoid this.
I am sorry to hear you couldn't reach us yesterday - Mondays are super busy all hands on deck kind of days, but we are all here. The robot just looks for what line is open to connect you to. You can email me directly at ask@fabrics-store.com and I'll be happy to call you back so you aren't waiting on the phone. Hopefully, FedEx will have your fabric to you today. Please do email me if anything. Have a lovely day
I made a maternity dress with this fabric last summer, and it was soooo comfy! It has beautiful texture and bounce. The white is so romantic, but it is too sheer (in white) to wear without a slip or lining! I ended up dying my dress a dark green and it was fine without anything under it.
I have been investigating Eco Dyeing and used this Linen to create scarves. It took the natural dye very will and stood up to the bundling and steaming process. I would recommend this product to anyone that is going to be eco dyeing on linen.
I made curtains for all the rooms in my house in 2004 after ordering ILO19. I have moved since then and brought my curtains with me. They are still going strong even though they are exposed to sunlight etc. Since that time I have added more curtains, used various weights for art projects, clothing and pillows; dyed, embroidered, painted and even stamped it with spackle. I love this store and all their linen weights I have used.
This is a great weight linen for a night gown. Washes beautifully. I love all the linens I have bought from you. I'll be back.
i needed a wide linen to make a tablecloth ,a fabric that was a compliment to my machine embroidered lace ,one that was soft but strong enough to support the lace when I cut away the fabric from the back of the lace ,the linen is a joy to sew and the drape is amazing and so easy to work with , wide linen 52" wide in my case is impossible to get here in Australia I am so glad that I found the fabrics store ,I haven,t quite finished my tablecloth but I will send a photo when I do
I used Bleached to make simple bread bags for crusty breads. After washing & pressing it sewed easily even though I'm no talented seamstress! The final products, ironed once, maintain an unwrinkled appearance through multiple foldings & squishings while keeping our bread fresh & the crust crisp (plastic doesn't breath & causes crust softening). IL019-Bleached would also make lovely & easily embroidered lingerie bags...next project, maybe!
I've ordered a good deal of linen from Fabrics-Store, and the basic bleached is one of my favorites. I sew a lot of reenactor garb (14th and 18th century) and this is the perfect weight and weave for shifts, aprons, caps, men's shirts, and other items. A wash and dry or two and it's ready to go. I love hand sewing with this and some good linen thread - it's so satisfying! I also appreciate how often it come up for sale. I will continue to order again and again from you.
This is truly multi-purpose and my all time favorite! I have used the bleached softened IL019 countless times for clothing and draperies. It is absolutely the most comfortable fabric to wear on a hot, humid day. I love its softness (wash it a couple of times before sewing to cut down on lint!!). Draperies give just the right amount of privacy yet are sheer enough to let light in and breezes blow.
I used 6 yards (more than necessary, could have done 5) of this, split lengthwise and hemmed, to make a woven wrap-style baby carrier, and it is wonderful - smooth, airy, strong, beautiful drape and glides easily over itself. It hemmed very easily and distributes my 25-lb baby's weight evenly over my shoulders & back. The color is also surpringly lovely; I was expecting a bright white, and there is no oatmealishness to it, but there is a slight sunny warmth to the shade.
Fabulous hand, easy to manipulate, drape and press. Love all your linens including the blends. So glad I found your site.
I love all your linens they are great to work with and to wear
I love the feel of this linen. I was surprised by the quality for the price. It sews like butter. I used this to make bolsters for my bedroom. I will definitely buy more of this fabric.
I used one yard of this fabric to make a long sleeve underdress, and a simple tunic dress for my 2 year old daughter for SCA events. The linen is soft, and light weight, perfect for Pennsic when it is hot. At first, I was going to dye it, but decided to keep it as is.
I love this fabric! I bought just enough to make curtains for my bedroom and now planning to order more to make curtains for the rest of the windows! Love love love this fabric! Thank you for being such a great resource for great quality linen!
I purchased one yard of the IL019 to get a feel of the material. I am very pleased and will order again and try different colors.
When I ordered this linen...I didn't know what to expect. Two days later he instructions for the scarf was sent. When my order came in I was. Rey please with the quality. Made the scarf ans it turned out great. Will definitely be ordering more in the future.
i bought one yard of this linen, to get a real feel for it because those little samples just dont give you a good feel for the drape and hand of the fabric, and i wasnt wasting my time and money on fabric that wasnt up to snuff, after washing and ironing the linen, is is fabulous, the drape is nice, the hand feels lovely, and it takes embroidery well, so i will be buying several more yards soon, :D
I bought IL019 Multi Purpose Linen for my project - a shirt with hand embroidery for summer
I am planing to use this fabric for face towels in the vanity area in my bathroom I have one that was given to me from France and I love it, so I saw this sale and bought a yard, and weight is great. I am going to just hand sew the the ends up and use the for face towels they will last for years to come. They are so durable.
This linen has been softened making it feel silky. Really like the quality, texture, feel and looks. Worth the listed price.
I love love love this linen -- it is so useful and versatile!
I love IL019 linen!! A joy to work with and all my reenactment garments turn out beautifully. Such a wonderful range of colors. I highly recommend!!!
I ordered 10 yards of both the Ultramarine Blue & Bleached White and have been nothing but pleased with the product. I have made a norse dress so far and have plans for many more and many tunics for my husband as well from these. The fabric feels luxurious and well made. It washed well both before sewing & after wearing. I will now be ordering all of my linen from fabrics-store.com--I was scared of online fabric shopping because I wanted to be able to feel the texture and quality. This was just about the same price as Hancock Fabrics, but the quality was better & I knew that this was an all nature fiber. At Hancock's you are never quite sure as I have bought many things that were mismarked at the retail store.
I have used this linen to make summer bedding items. For summer sheets and pillowcases it can't be surpassed. It is easy to work with, sturdy and hard-wearing, and very comfortable against my skin. I made several summer "blankets" using a two-yard length, turning a narrow edge, and working a single crochet edge in pastel colors. This linen BREATHES and is very comfortable.
I ordered this fabric to make a working class 18th century shift, and it has been a dream to work with. I'd never sewn linen before, and it is just perfect for hand-sewing. It was wonderfully soft on arrival and it has only gotten softer with washing and use. There are very few slubs, but enough to make the piece still look "period." I'll be ordering more colors for my petticoats soon!
The MYKONOS shirt FS BLEACHED Midweight Linen. The silhouette and practicality of the shirt can be easily dressed up or down. I would say it falls firmly in the part shirt, part jacket "shacket" category of clothing. I could easily see a lighter or heavier fabric looking fantastic. You can read more about this project here: blog.fabrics-store.com/2021/09/14/pattern-review-mykonos-shirt-in-midweight-linen/
Hand-embroidered linen hand and bar towels that the women in a small village in Sonora Mexico make! The towels are works of art and are hand-embroidered on your linen. The best part is that the women embroiderers receive all the profits and help to provide for their family with the proceeds. This is our 12th year for Sal del Mar hand-embroidered bags of gourmet sea salt and hand-embroidered linen towels. Take a look at our website saldelmar.com
Working with linen is great! I made this traditional Ukrainian shirt for Easter using this beautiful linen. I hand embroidered the design on Aida cloth about 5 or 6 years ago, but finally had the inspiration to complete the blouse/dress(It falls just below my knees)I already have my linen(IL019 in natural) for my next traditional shirt, but need to find another beautiful design to dress it up with.
This is a reproduction of a early 17th century Elizabethan blackwork jacket on display at the Manchester City Galleries. The embroidery, not an exact reproduction, is machine stitched. The jacket is constructed of prewashed bleached linen. And hand-braided cotton trim was stitched over all the seams.
