Dusk was James Abbot McNeill Whistler's favorite time of day, when cool temperatures and dwindling light turned colors into an ambiguous, enigmatic haze.

Nuanced shades of blue and green like that of TURQUOISE Linen allowed him to convey this bracing evening light as it stretched across misty skies and open expanses of freezing water, merging the two into one. A leader in the aesthetic movement of the 19th century, Whistler blended music, poetry, and art together in these tranquil, mesmerizing scenes, writing, “As music is the poetry of sound, so is painting the the poetry of sight.”

Our Turquoise is not your typical lighter, brighter blue like the gemstone, but rather a unique blue with a green undertone and a subtle touch of grey.

At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Dear F/S Team, I made a tablecloth with Meadow 4c22, napkins with turquoise IL019, and table runner with orange/blue narrow width fabric. Totally lovely table setting. I'm needing your help for placemats. I could do Turquoise again with fringing. What do you suggest? Pam Murphy

Would this be a suitable weight for slipcovers? If not, what weight would work best?

Caro • November 17, 2022
Maureen profile image F|S Team

It can and has been used for slipcovers for items that are not considered "High Use" if it is then you may want to consider a heavier linen such as 4C22 or IL090. Ordering a swatch to see the linen will also help in making your choice.
