IL019 OPTIC WHITE Softened - 100% Linen - Middle (5.3 oz/yd2)
A crisp, true bright white that is clean and pure in look and feel.
At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces, this 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.
The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

This is my all time favorite for summer clothing. This time I'm planning a blouse... cool & comfortable, no fuss on a hot, humid day. Can't go wrong. Perfect!
Wow Factor.
I love the IL019 signature finish fabric. I use it extensively for embroidery projects sold on my Etsy shop (AdaliaSeasonalDecor). The signature finish is fantastic. So soft, wrinkle resistant and easy to work with. It's the perfect weight for most of my projects including tea towels, pillows and decorative pillows. The optic white is a slightly off-white.
I purchased the medium weight linen. I originally intended to make shower curtains for our farmhouse guest suite. But after I washed the fabric, I really fell in love with it. Do I still make crazy amazing shower curtain? Or do I make a summer quilt? I am leaning towards summer quilt. Decisions can be so much fun. Excellent quality- gotta be honest. I really wasn't expecting this being so perfect. Optic white linen. So soft but durable. It will only get more soft with use. It reminds me of that old European Country (it was Southern Germany) Bed&Breakfast. Her linens were what I stive for now. Wish me luck
Love the IL019 linen! This white tie dyes beautifully!
I contacted customer service about the shade difference and they sent me an exchange piece of paper white Optic IL019 that is truly white white. Great customer service! I am sorry I didn't contact them first before I posted this review. If you have any issues with your FS fabric, CONTACT THEM FIRST and don't do like I did after the fact. This is a great company and excellent source for high quality linen- and yes- it is addicting! Thank you again, Maureen!
I purchased two 5 yard pieces of ILO19 Optic White on sale at different times and was shocked and disappointed when one batch came as off white. As you can see by the label, both say optic white but one is clearly whiter. Be aware if you need for a large project to buy ALL AT ONCE. I have purchased and used a lot of different kinds of FS linen and I love all of them—just wanted you to know sometimes this comes in more creamy.
I am a huge fan of this linen. I am a fabricator and have recommended this fabric to many clients for lovely drapes. It is also wonderful for clothing.
Made a robe in this Optic White linen for my daughter. She loves the robe and it looks so comfy cozy on her. She has become a linen fan like her mom. Our little dogs really love the linen as well. Just saying
I've not sewn with it yet but eager.
Used this to make and paint a basic Tshirt dress. Using fabric paints and a spray bottle of water, i got beautiful effect. As always, i washed and fully dried in the dryer before using (This is the only time it will ever see a dryer.) The shrinkage is as expected, and it seems to get softer with every wash, even when line dried!
I bought this to make sheets. It washes up nicely. I can't wait to sew it!
Purchased for light weight drapes but a wee to heavy. Have exchanged for sheer optic white.
I've been purchasing linen from this site for years. I love it. I'm currently taking an online shibori- indigo class and am so excited to use this for my samples. I found out yesterday from the instructor that she also uses lines from fabric-store and loves it also. I will continue to be a loyal customer.
The optic white is so close to pure with a smooth feel and nice weight. I washed the yardage in warm water and used a medium heat in the dryer for 15 minutes. I removed the fabric while still slightly damp, and ironed. I do this with all my linen prior to working with it. The IL019 is absolutely my favorite, and the most versatile for my projects. The FS is my go to linen source, good prices, excellent quality, great customer service, and I generally get my orders within 2 or 3 days. I am addicted to be sure.
I used this linen to make white euro shams to go with a new quilt for my bedding. They turned out great and fabric is super easy to work with.
I order yardage for a king size bed skirt The drape of the linen is perfect, the color is pure white and weight was ideal. I washed, tumbled dried and iron before cutting.
I am making a pair of wide leg white pants for summer and the Optic White fits the bill for summer, easy breezy outfits.
I have used this wonderful linen for several years now to meet the sewing needs of our Church. It is used for altar coverings, purifacators, banners, and baptismal bibs. I usually buy it by the bolt so that I always have enough on hand to meet the needs of our growing parish.
I haven't sewn with this yet, but it has a lovely feel to it. I always soak linen in warm water in the bathtub first so the fibres absob water-gives it a better hand after washing in a machine and drying. I'll use this to make dinner napkins. Would likley make nice sheets as well.
I made a tunic out of this fabric and embroidered the bodice. I chose white on white with size 8 perle cotton and I love it! You win some and you use some....this was a winner! I will order more in the future:)
I make duvet covers, blankets, curtains and pillowcases from this fabric. I just love it. It's great to work with. After a couple months of washing and use it feels like "butter" and just gets better and better with age. It's a beautiful stark white. It really is an all purpose linen weight. One of my favourites.
I am just about fininshed with a quilt for a grandson for Christmas made from a 65-year old yukata kimono that had been my father's and a hefty supply of this linen. It is just lovely and preserves its vintage vibe.I found that spray starch helps a lot as I put the pieces together, and modern quilt techniques enhance the spare design.
This is one of my favorite, to go fabrics. I love the weight, feel and body of the fabric. Some shrinkage, but that is to be expected and it irons out nicely.
I have just got my order of optic white IL019 linen. It looks beautiful but I thought the color would be whiter than it is. Its color name (optic white) suggested to me that it would be somehow snow-white (I found such a color in a local market). I also noticed some brownish-yellow hues on some parts of it, I wish this will be gone once washed. It seemed more transparent than I judged from the weight sample card. I also wish it will be less transparent once washed, probably with hot water. I intend to make a traditional "thoub" out of it, but might make a shirt and a trouser as undergarments instead because linen is highly breathable and very comfortable to wear in our extremely hot summer here in Saudi Arabia. I am not sure if it is possible to make T-shirts with linen, but will find out about it.
IL019 is a midweight linen that arrives with a crisp hand before washing. It softens with washing and age. I machine wash and dry all my linen. This is heavier than ILO20. I successfully used it to make a pioneer reenactor dress (1845 Godey's) for my daughter. I made it in brick pink which seems to be no longer available. What a beautiful color. IL019 fabric sews easily. It holds pleats well. It is suitable for dresses, blouses, and skirts. It is sheer enough that a slip may be necessary. I would hesitate to make it into a suit, but I could see making a casual summer jacket from it. It is somewhat light for pants unless lined or using a darker color, but I prefer a heavier fabric (6 oz plus) for bottom weights. I will buy this again.
I've chosen to make The Assembly Line Tulip Dress because it has a fitted bodice that will be flattering on my curvy figure. It also has a zipper back, and until now, I've managed to avoid zippers! Inspired by a Dissh ready-to-wear dress similar to this pattern, I've made the dress with FS OPTIC WHITE linen. Something about white on older women is very appealing. I imagine it as embracing that crone-goddess energy. Women don't need to hide when they get older. We're at our most appealing selves when we have earned this much wisdom and power. White feels like owning that space and radiating the kind of settled satisfaction I feel in my own body and life right now.

Spaghetti straps (also referred to as rouleau straps) are those narrow fabric straps that you often see in lingerie, camisole tops and dresses. They look delicate and feminine, keep the shoulders bare but have a bad reputation for being difficult to sew. Because spaghetti straps are so narrow, they can be hard to turn right side out. Today we are going to show you two simple techniques for making your own spaghetti straps that look neat and with a clean finish.
I made a shower curtain, as you can see. I was pretty sure it would work without a liner, and it does! It gets wet of course, but the water doesn't splash through, and then it dries! I love the plainness of it. I used some tiny grommets that I had, and bought these thin wire hangers to go with. I love it.
I was delighted with IL019 OPTIC WHITE softened for a king-size duvet, bed skirt, shams and euro shams.. This linen is a beautiful medium weight with a "stone washed" rustic look after prewashing. . . just what I was looking for! I made this pair of underwear from the IL019 optic white, with the trim pieces made from the IL020 bleached. I hand-dyed the red, blue and purple with Rit-brand dye. This is to be for my husband to wear to church when he is preaching. He really likes the feel and drape of the linen, and I thought it was easy to work with. If the IL020 came in scarlet, ultramarine, and royal purple, I would buy it, because I was unable to get the brilliant colors I wanted to get with the store dye.
Optic White IL019 This is our Ha Ibriy Kuttonet (The Hebrew Tunic) made at ebriykhoq.com Ebriy Khoq(Hebrew Culture) The Linen quality is fantastic, strong enough to fringe the hem without breakage but still soft and light enough for summer wear, my customers love the linen quality, no complaint since I have used Fabrics Store Irish Linen. Thank You Fabrics Store for all of you customer service and great delivery time.
Pillowcases ... I don't have a lot of experience working with linen so thought I would start out simple... I pre washed in hot and tumbled dried my optic white IL019 .. After a good ironing I made these simple housewife style pillow cases ... I am very happy with the result the fabric was as I expected .. Soft yet sturdy .. a nice bright white. and the perfect weight . And they cost a fraction of what pure linen pillow cases cost. I am now ready to move on to make the matching duvet cover...🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I wanted 100% linen tea towels. I made towels out of the IL019 OPTIC WHITE Softened. (As you can see, I'm no seamstress.) I love them. The fabric is beautiful. I made them a little larger than average and now have exactly what I want and need. They are absorbent and easy to care for. They are perfect for handwash glassware such as crystal, antique and vintage items. I'm so glad I finally found the perfect linen fabric for me.
A Hebraic look (somewhat an African) style tunic made with this Optic white L019. It is so nice to work with. this is one of my most popular tunics on my apparel site. With 100% linen thread embroideries or rayon embroideries makes this look so elegant. This tunic was made for religious purposes for worship attire. zipporahreshel.com
