NINE IRON linen's steely, dramatic grey with just a hint of crimson became great swathes of deep shadow in the hands of the painter Thomas Cole, sweeping across America's epic mountain ranges and forming wild, turbulent skies laden with thunderstorms.

His momentous landscapes are a celebration of America's sublime wilderness during the mid-19th century, before industrialization took over, invoking the unstoppable force of this overwhelmingly vast terrain.

At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

If I want to make seat covers for my kitchen chairs, would you suggest the softened or the signature finish in this fabric? Would one hold up better than the other? What would be the main difference?

Hello, The difference between the fabric is in the softness, the Signature finish is softer and feels like linen which has been softened over time, whereas the softened fabric has only has a softener applied to the fabric for smoothness. Both will hold up well over time and both will soften up the same. The only factor that may influence your decision is whether you will prefer to make the seat covers from a fabric which is a tiny bit stiffer, then the softened is the way to go.
