IL019 AUTUMN GOLD Softened - 100% Linen - Middle (5.3 oz/yd2)
Johannes Vermeer was a master of understatement, crafting exquisite, enigmatic beauty from quiet scenes of domestic life. AUTUMN GOLD linen's warm indulgent tone takes its cue from the golden light that ignites these hushed interiors and makes them shine with the gloss of precious metal. Strategically placed strands of complimentary colours including Delft blue and china white allow yellow tones to resonate and sing out even brighter, transforming ordinary interiors into magical places of silent wonder.
At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces, this 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

This beautiful yellow is about as dark as a gold can be without becoming a mustard yellow or a burnt umber/antique gold. It's beautiful, and of course the fabric itself is that same high quality we've come to expect of Fabrics-store.com. The medium weight makes it work well for a variety of uses.
Linen has become my most favored fabric to work with. I am thrilled with the qualities of linen's texture, its earthy scent, and wrinkles formed whilst wearing it. I fell in love with this colour when I first began to sew.
This was my first time sewing with Fabrics-Store.Com linen and it won't be the last (already ordered more). Used it to make Sew House Seven's Burnside Bibs and had enough left over to make an outfit for my granddaughter. Used both a traditional sewing machine (Singer 15-91, with the ruffler) and a new serger, and the fabric responded beautifully to everything I asked it to do. Will definitely be using this fabric again!
Love baby wearing, but slings can be pricey and I can sew... So I wanted to try making one myself. I looked up instructions and also researched fabric which led me to this site. Love how my sling turned out!! Made a single layer and the color is beautiful, fabric is cool for summer, and baby is happy!
Loved the color, it was perfect for my 18th century petticoat!
Mom is tired of dressing "like a grandma" and wanted something to wear in hot weather - Autumn Gold linen and a shift dress pattern to the rescue, then I used thumb sized faux amber beads (in gold, orange, and red) with gold glass beads to add a strand of color to add a little interest to the outfit. It can be dressed up or down, depending on if she's going to church or sitting around the house and Mom loves it. I'm being asked for more linen garments!
I have made several tunics with this material as applique on them. It has been a breeze to work with and feels real nice.
Autumn gold is the perfect name for this beautiful linen. This color is the gold of falling leaves. I made a beautiful fall jacket and wide leg pant set and am amazed at how neutral this works with so many other colors. I get compliments every time I wear this color. As always, top quality!
Paired with ginger, these colors compliment each other. warm and inviting.
This is quite a deep warm gold, with plenty of red undertone, without being the least bit garish. I paired it with Dress Blue for a striking particolored surcote. Beautiful and rich looking!
I made an underdress with this autumn gold linen that is absolutely wonderful. Initially I was a little concerned because it's a looser weave than I was expecting. After working with it and wearing it, however, I've decided that it's perfect. The looser weave is particularly wonderful in the hot desert, as it lets the breeze cool one. The color is rich and warm. It pairs marvelously with both my blue and aqua overdress. I whole heartedly recommend it.
I decided to make a new kirtle, it's been a long time. This fabric and color are wonderful. I didn't include a picture, because there were already some! Great minds and good taste! It's so versatile! On cooler days it looks lively peaking out from under other layers, on hot days it's fresh and light enough to be comfortable but sturdy! There are days when I don't include a chemise underneath and it's fine. It FEELS so good and is a joy to hand sew and embroider!
Love this fabric! So soft and billowy after washing. It was a delight to sew and iron. Since it was my first purchase I decided to keep it simple and make a tablecloth. I forgot to measure the piece before I washed it (5 times), but when I was ready to make the tablecloth, I ended up with an inch more than I ordered...thank you Fabric-Store.com! The cut I received is a much more of a saturated autumn gold than appears on my screen, but it is the perfect pop of color for my dining room. I can't wait to make another tablecloth from the biker red that is ready to be washed!
I needed a gold jacket to go with a skirt and I picked this. Best linen ever! It's so soft and flowy and sews beautifully. I'll try and post a picture soon.
I purchase a lot of linen in various weights. Within the Society for Creative Anachronism I maintain an 11th century Viking woman persona. I have many items from apron dresses to over tunics made from this lovely linen in the various weights. I really like the 5.3 oz linen for either apron dresses or under-dresses. The linen gets softer with each washing and wears like iron. I pre shrink everything so I can then put my clothes both in the washer and dry with no additional shrinkage. Fabulous stuff, you can not go wrong purchasing...
As most Sewists, I have a big collection of scrap pieces and remnants. I am always looking for projects to make these scraps useful. The Bombazine Mitt is the perfect remnant busting project. The mitt is quick, easy, useful, and makes a great gift! For step by step tutorial go here : blog.fabrics-store.com/2020/06/07/one-yard-project-bombazine-mitt-sewalong/
I've made a variety of things with this linen from dresses to handbags and pajamas. I love that it can be pressed to a nice crisp hand or left alone after washing for a lovely softness. I used a midweight interfacing with the Cobalt and Autumn Gold linens to create this fully lined two-toned tote bag.
