Natural is the earth made, not dyed, color of the flax plant once it is made into thread. No dyes, no bleach. The only thing that impacts the color of the cloth from one production to the next ( if it is more beige or grey) is the amount of sunshine and rain that particular flax harvest had.
At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.
The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

I would like to make a pair of loose fitting elasticized-waist pants out of your natural linen. Would you say the heavier weight linen 4C22 is less prone to wrinkles and creases than the IL019 linen or more prone?

We recommend to use art. 4C-22 for the pants , if you use softener when washing the items it will be less wrinkled .
For a small curtain in a doorway, would you recommend medium or heavy weight linen?

The IL 019 medium weight is great for bedding items . But I want to mention we only carry 58" wide fabric. If you decide to use this fabric the fitted sheet and top sheet will be with the seams.
Can someone describe in more detail what is meant by adding a softener? Is this a chemical process? I want to make some items that will come into contact with food and want to make sure to use food safe materials. Thanks!

We use a silicone softener that is applied to the linen to give it a smooth hand. This linen with softener has passed the Oeko-Tex standard 100 certification process. The Oeko-Tex organization tests our products for over 100 harmful chemicals and toxins before approving them for public use. Our linens, including this one, are widely used for home decor items such as napkins as well as bread, market and vegetable bags without issue .

Is this medium weight linen on this page good for furniture slipcovers?

The middleweight linen has and can be used for slipcovers, but if the item will be used in a high traffic area we recommend looking at our heavier linens as well. We have samples available for purchase to compare the weights to make sure which one will work best for your project.
Is this a good choice for kitchen towels?
Yes, the IL019 natural can be used for kitchen towels along if a smoother wider middle weight linen is what you are wanting. Please also take a look at the 4C22 rustic linen and our selection of narrow toweling, IL084 and IL085 which makes up beautiful kitchen towels.
This fabric is great like all the IL19 collection. This natural color has a pale and slightly gray color to it, which works well for my medieval based projects

Just a Pinch Lighter than the Image
Lovely medium-weight linen for tops and bottoms! I do find the color to be a bit lighter than what's shown on my screen. This linen, like all that I order from here is a nice quality, with a few slubs/loose threads here or there that I pull to the wrong side of the fabric with a small crochet hook. Not a big deal! Like all linens, this fabric gets much, much softer with machine washing and drying.
Perfect for my Elizabeth Bennett dress. Washed nicely. The color is very close to the color swatch though perhaps a bit lighter. The weight is perfect for a dress. Drapes like a dream. My only concern is I didn't purchase enough!
I have never bought fabric online before because I really need to see and feel it in person. However, I couldn't find any decent linen in stores! So after reading reviews of the fabrics-store linens I decided to take a chance, and I am so glad I did. I love this linen! Loved the natural color, the feel, the drape, and the way it performs.
I was surprised by how soft this fabric is (even after washing!). The one issue that I did notice is that is has a lot of slubs. After washing, there were flax pieces poking out of the slubs, making the fabric scratchy in places. I used this fabric to make a shirt for my partner, who often wears wool, and he didn't mind the scratchiness much. Just something to note in case you're sensitive to that sort of thing.
Beautiful, I love the natural color
This linen is lovely. I'm relatively new to sewing linen after being confident with knits after many years. This linen is affordable and beautiful and I'm working on lots of new garments for myself and my boys.
I bought this to make a pair of loose trousers (actually I'd made a pair already in a different color - Insignia Blue - and loved them so much I had to have another pair) for summer. It's perfect. I love the feel of it - substantial but not at all stiff and light enough for a hot day.
I received 12 yards of L19 and was delighted with the color and the hand. After washing the fabric it got a bit softer which will be perfect for the duvet I am going to make. I highly recommend this fabric.

Helen's Closet Ashton Top Colorblock Hack from the blog in scraps of medium-weight fabrics-store linen. 'Natural' is the right shoulder, 'Lagoon' is the other shoulder. 'Folkstone Gray' is the bottom triangle, and 'Natural Mix' is the bottom square. You can see that the Natural Mix is nearly white, and just a few shades lighter than 'Natural'.

I tackled this pattern with no particular plan other than to use a lot of colors. I used 1 yard increments of several colored linens, All-purpose Mix Natural, Autumn Gold, Agave, Wisteria, Sanguine, Lilas – all IL019, and that determined how far down my color piecing work began as I cut the main body pattern pieces from the off-white linen and then worked with the other colors to fill in the gaps.

I purchased I think about 8 yards of your natural softened linen to make 2 shower curtains so they would open in the middle and I wanted to share my project. The linen is beautiful and I just wanted to share my finished product. Please find the attached. I prewashed the linen, and sewed the panels together. 72" x 80" and then I hand painted the edges with a Sumi Brush with black textile paint.
My husband was very happy to buy me a FS gift card for Christmas and I was very happy to use it to buy the Charlie pattern and FS linen. I was inspired by Morgann McCoy's posts on The Thread for the sleeveless top and trousers, so much so that I just totally copied her color choices and I have no regrets! I was also motivated by fellow Charlie poster, Sarah, who tackled the trousers as her first sewing project. I used the IL019 Agave Signature Finish for the top and the IL019 Natural Softened for the trousers. Before I started working on my outfit, I met with Lauren to discuss fit adjustments for my measurements—I'm 5'4" and short-waisted. She gave me great suggestions and encouraged me to make a muslin for the trousers, which was key to my success. I felt pretty swanky when I tried on my outfit for the first time, so of course I'm now hooked for all time. I am going to make another blouse (or the dress) in IL020 lighter weight linen, and maybe another pair of trousers in the 4C22 heavier weight linen for fall season.

FABRIC CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Please note that some of our darker or more vibrant shades will have some residual dye run off or bleeding. It is important that you launder or treat like colors with like colors so that you do not compromise the integrity of any other colors, fabrics or garments during the launder process.
We also suggest that if you are combining one or more of these types of colors with lighter colors that you pre-wash the linens seperately and once the item is completed do not launder again, but Dry Clean.
