Jacquard cloths are created by weaving different color threads to create intricate patterns - or paintings that are woven with thread. These are harder to weave and are considered an "heirloom" fabric due to the craftsmanship involved in their creation.
This fabric is super fun to work with - making every project look like a work of art. The trick? Just throw it in the wash!
When you receive it - the cloth will be 65 inches wide, flat, and 2-dimensional. After the wash and dry - the design will "lift up" giving the fabric a 3 dimensional appearance.
In order for the fabric to "lift up" it is woven in a way that when it is washed and dried - it will shrink more than plain weave linen giving it the volume needed to be 3 dimensional. This cloth you can expect 18% shrinkage weft (width of the fabric); and 16% warp (length of the fabric). Shrinkage is based on a warm wash and low-heat dry.

Does this make good bath towels?

Do you know, of anybody, or have you tried to over dye this? Does it stay where it is the gray a darker color of the dye? That would help in the other color department.

we do not recommend to use this fabric for placemats after washing this double weave fabric will be wavy
If the linen is 60" wide originally, how much (inch-wise) does it shrink after washing? I'd like to use it to cover some Victorian chairs only the current material is very scratchy, so I need something non-scratchy. Thanks!

Hello, For this fabric you can expect 18% shrinkage weft (width of the fabric); and 16% warp (length of the fabric). Shrinkage is based on a warm wash and low-heat dry. So your fabric width after washing will be approximately 55" wide and will be textured due to the two layers of fabric which are joined together to make the jacquard design.
Just FYI, I tried repeatedly yesterday probably 10 times to order Royal crest 2 yards at the 25% off. It would never take my order. I get all the way to submit my order and then it would never open.

I have just purchased this fabric ad was very happy with it. I had seen it in the past ad was very tempted but was afraid it wouldn't be heavy enough fora throw. When it recently came on sale I decided to take the plunge especially after reading a number of the reviews on the web site. I haven't started the project yet but am looking forward to seeing it made up.
Oh my goodness I Love,love this fabric. I made a throw out of 2yards of this delightful fabric! I sewed it B4 washing washed in cool water and dried on permanent press forins. But perhaps I should've taken it out half way dry. Will do that on my next one. No pictures at this time I'm at work.

I made a 3 panel bedspread with this fabric using double lapped seams so that the pattern would align on both sides and so that it could have a nice finish on both sides, since it is a jacquard. It took a little figuring out to get it to align, but wasn't that hard in the end. You have to leave a section of overlapping pattern on both sides of the fabric and cut as straight as you can. For the single lapped seam, you only over lap the fabric a quarter of the way into the pattern repeat. Then when you fold the fabric, it brings the pattern together beautifully. I used a gluestick and pins for the first lapped seam without sewing and then folded for the double lapped seam and easily pulled the pins out and just stuck them back in again as I did the double lapped seam. Make sure you have the pins in the right way so they are easy to pull out. It went really fast. (I used the C shape in the middle of the photo as the overlapping region because it was easy to cut a straight line along the outside edge of. each C. I then found that the outer edges of the little tulip shaped parts of the pattern were at the right place to align the edge of the fabric for the single lapped seam. This fabric pattern is very nice to work with though because there is lots of symmetry in it and a lot of things to use as markers in other places.,)
Just finished vest using Simplicity 1499. Also used IL037 for piping (perfect match) and IL002 Royal Crest. Fabric was a fine to work with. TIP: stay stitch seams as well as doing ease stitching around any curved areas. Really stretches.
Purchased as Doggie bag and combined with natural to make a cozy jean jacket style coat.
This is lovely, durable fabric! This was made in 2019. 1 and 1/2 yards, half inch double fold side hems, 5 in single thickness ruffle in heavyweight natural mix. Still going strong - daily use and twice a week washing. Deborah
The couch throw was inspired by someone on this forum who used IL002 Royal Crest for a bed topper. I used a 1 yd Doggie Bag piece (one of my earliest FS purchases) & lined it & made bias binding w/IL020 Handkerchief Bleached. Thanks for the inspiration!

FABRIC CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Please note that some of our darker or more vibrant shades will have some residual dye run off or bleeding. It is important that you launder or treat like colors with like colors so that you do not compromise the integrity of any other colors, fabrics or garments during the launder process.
We also suggest that if you are combining one or more of these types of colors with lighter colors that you pre-wash the linens seperately and once the item is completed do not launder again, but Dry Clean.
