Bleached color is achieved by "stripping" the natural pigment out of the fibers( just like you would with bleaching hair). What you are left with is a very soft shade that is just ever so slightly an off-white color.
Bleached is the basics of any project and loves being dyed. It is actually what we use to dye the colors. A truly versatile base and a must-have addition to your fabric repertoire.

The beautiful open weave texture of this linen gives it a light, airy opaque look, making it an excellent choice for apparel, intimate apparel, accessories, interior design projects and so much more. This cloth is 57 inches wide.

I'm looking for light linen to line a linen dress. Would you recommend this weight or a little heavier?

Kim • March 18, 2023
PV

You should take a look at our handkerchief linen IL020 it is a bit heavier than the Gauze IL030. Either one works for lining.

Would this make good handkerchiefs? If not, what else would you recommend?

Karen • January 21, 2023
Maureen profile image F|S Team

This is a gauze linen and although lightweight our customers tend to use a tightly woven lightweight linen such as IL020 for handkerchiefs.

I have never seen with gauze linen fabric. Since I am thinking g this would be too sheer to wearas an unlined garment, what would you recommend using to line a blouse or dress made from this gauze?

Susan • March 25, 2023
Maureen profile image F|S Team

Yes it can and is used for lining a variety of garments. If you have some time we do have samples for purchase so you can see of it will work for your intended project.

Maureen profile image F|S Team

The most popular choice for napkins is our middleweight linens, however, any of our basic linens can be used for napkins, but it usually comes down to the look, weight and color you are wanting for your project.

when washed will this fabric have a natural wrinkle / texture to it? Looking to make gauze sheer curtains and want a natural / wrinkled look I see on Etsy

Lori • July 26, 2023
Lauren profile image F|S Team

If you want a gently crumpled textured look, then this fabric will give you that fresh from the wash and dry, if you want more of that texture, you can air dry with the fabric laying flat.

Would you use the gauze for a slip or would the handkerchief weight be more suitable?

Marianne • June 12, 2023
Lauren profile image F|S Team

Our customers prefer the Handkerchief weight linen IL019 since it has a tighter weave and a smoother hand.

what patterns would you recommend for this linen?

I bought 39 yds of this and it came on a bolt. I am making long 90x wof rod pocket curtains with it. How much extra should I add to my measurement to allow for shrinkage?

Lucille • October 27, 2023

Hello We recommend adding 10% of your total for shrinkage for this fabric.

Hi. Can you tell me what are the main uses for this particular type of linen? It is so thin. I wonder if it is sturdy enough for embroidery work if I use a stabilizing paper that dissolves in water?

Does this fabric require any pre-treatment before an all-over, saturated dye?

Caitlin • February 24, 2023
PV

We have several articles on our blog that will guide you on how to dye your linen - please refer to this link but usually a scour is what is normally done to pre-treat the linen before dying. blog.fabrics-store.com/?s=dye&post_type=post

somewhat disappointed

I don't know why since this fabric is 100% linen but it doesn't feel like it. I've bought lots of yardage from this site and been very pleased with my purchases but this one is distinctly different in feel.

Hello, We're sorry you don't like the feel of this fabric. Since this fabric doesn't have a softener applied to it, it will feel stiff to the touch. Upon washing it will soften up considerably, and continue to soften up with repeated washing and wearing. If you want to speed up the softening process, please consider our softener, which is designed especially for our linen fabrics. You only need to use it once for great results. If you're still not 100% sure about this fabric please do get in contact with us by phone or email and we'll be happy to help how we can.

Amazing what this fabric does to l natural light coming through a window

First time I've sewn with this fabric and it is beautiful. I am so happy with his bathroom curtain. I keep running to the hallway to just look at how beautiful and soft the natural light shines through it!!!

beautiful and fine

:::happy sigh::: I'm going to go completely blind embroidering this. :) It's so fine and even. I already have the silk threads to start. I thought that perhaps they would be too thin for the fabric. Not at all!

I really like this gauze linen.

I think this linen is fairly durable for a gauze. It also dyes well.

This linen made a gorgeous window treatment that gives enough privacy but allows the light to shine through.

I used this lightweight linen to create a viking-style underdress/chemise. Because of the heavy smocking, this gauzy fabric was perfect. The dress is still very breezy, and not as heavy as it would be with heavier weave. I dyed the linen salmon pink with avocado pits. It dyes like a charm and keeps the colour.

Dorota • October 20, 2023

Very nice linen, loosely woven. Perfect for undergarments and summer shirts, but because of the weave, see-through. My pattern was self-drafted, based on a historical XVI c. shirts. I dyed it with avocado pits to be salmon pink, it dyed beautifully and holds the colour well. In the future, I would use something more closely woven for a project like that, but this fabric has a nice drape which would be perfect for dresses with an underlay.

When the folks at Fabric Store offered me the chance to start a series, I jumped (anxiously) at the chance to share more of that journey, to try more of their delicious fabric and see if I could use this as an opportunity to push myself out of my comfort zone. For my first project I picked this lightweight gauzey linen with ideas about a breezy beach coverup using a new sewing technique I'd seen. Or a shirt with appliquéd linen butterflies on the arms. I was fully ready to challenge the classic clean lines and safe sews my wardrobe is full of.
