Bleached color is achieved by "stripping" the natural pigment out of the fibers( just like you would with bleaching hair). What you are left with is a very soft shade that is just ever so slightly an off-white color.
Bleached is the basics of any project and loves being dyed. It is actually what we use to dye the colors. A truly versatile base and a must-have addition to your fabric repertoire.

Would this linen make good "bread towels," like tea towels only for lining bread baskets? Or even lightweight kitchen towels. I have plenty of heavy towels but have found that I really like some super lightweight ones for general purpose and for bread. My biggest concern would be if they "shed" lint. Thanks!

This is a very lightweight fabric with a gauzy feel. This fabric will only shed lint in the wash when new.
I'm looking for light linen to line a linen dress. Would you recommend this weight or a little heavier?
You should take a look at our handkerchief linen IL020 it is a bit heavier than the Gauze IL030. Either one works for lining.

This is a gauze linen and although lightweight our customers tend to use a tightly woven lightweight linen such as IL020 for handkerchiefs.
I have never seen with gauze linen fabric. Since I am thinking g this would be too sheer to wearas an unlined garment, what would you recommend using to line a blouse or dress made from this gauze?

If you want a gently crumpled textured look, then this fabric will give you that fresh from the wash and dry, if you want more of that texture, you can air dry with the fabric laying flat.

We actually prefer our IL019 and 1C64 as the minimum weight for sheets for durability. You can use the IL020 lightweight for a top sheet only though.

I bought 39 yds of this and it came on a bolt. I am making long 90x wof rod pocket curtains with it. How much extra should I add to my measurement to allow for shrinkage?

I want to line a bias dress made from IL020; I have several tops where I used two layers of IL020, and they are just a tad heavy. Would you suggest this or the cotton/linen 008? I think having some give could be good under the bias - cut this on grain? Thanks for your help!

We would recommend this fabric, IL030, over the cotton blend and the cotton adds a different drape to the fabric and can be a little more structured than the 100% linen. So we would recommend this fabric before the blend.

Nice and Flowy -- great for items with lots of fabric
Like many of of you, I was unsure about the different weights of linen fabric here. So I bought all weights in white and tried them out. I was looking for linen I can sew beach cover ups with, but sexy and flow-y, with some transparency. And the Light weight is defiantly providing that. I also made pants with it, without liners. So I strategically placed pockets ;-) Also, it is perfect for eye pouches i fill them with my dried lavender. The light weight linen holds the flower buds in place, but provides the full amount of aroma coming trough the thin fiber. This light weight is great for anything that has a lot of fabric bunched up or needs to flow -- dresses, blouses, baggy pants, maxi skirts. Gosh, hope that helps! Happy sewing everyone!
I just renewed my stash of this weight. I used it to make coverups for beach and airplane travel. I also want to make the Ash pintuck top on this sheer super lightweight linen
I bought this fabric for shears. I've stitched the edges, washed, dried, and pressed it. I love this look and feel of this fabric. BUT, now that I've seen it, I want to get more to pre wash and dry and make beach wear, without pressing. The look and feel out of the dyer is almost unbelievably nice.
I purchased this linen because last year I made a button-down shirt for my husband out of this material. His comment was, "Like I am wearing a cloud!". Now I am after that cloud-like experience for my daughter and myself! This fabric is just perfect for everything, from blouses to embroidered napkins, to undergarments, to more blouses. Love it.
I love the way this linen feels, I'll be doing lots of sewing in the Fall, setting my sights for summer 2024 to wear.
Simple sheer linen gauze inner curtains
This linen made a gorgeous window treatment that gives enough privacy but allows the light to shine through.
I used this lightweight linen to create a viking-style underdress/chemise. Because of the heavy smocking, this gauzy fabric was perfect. The dress is still very breezy, and not as heavy as it would be with heavier weave. I dyed the linen salmon pink with avocado pits. It dyes like a charm and keeps the colour.
Very nice linen, loosely woven. Perfect for undergarments and summer shirts, but because of the weave, see-through. My pattern was self-drafted, based on a historical XVI c. shirts. I dyed it with avocado pits to be salmon pink, it dyed beautifully and holds the colour well. In the future, I would use something more closely woven for a project like that, but this fabric has a nice drape which would be perfect for dresses with an underlay.
When the folks at Fabric Store offered me the chance to start a series, I jumped (anxiously) at the chance to share more of that journey, to try more of their delicious fabric and see if I could use this as an opportunity to push myself out of my comfort zone. For my first project I picked this lightweight gauzey linen with ideas about a breezy beach coverup using a new sewing technique I'd seen. Or a shirt with appliquéd linen butterflies on the arms. Please note that some of our darker or more vibrant shades will have some residual dye run off or bleeding. It is important that you launder or treat like colors with like colors so that you do not compromise the integrity of any other colors, fabrics or garments during the launder process.
We also suggest that if you are combining one or more of these types of colors with lighter colors that you pre-wash the linens seperately and once the item is completed do not launder again, but Dry Clean.
