Would this pattern be suitable for a coat (made in wool or cashmere)?

Vickie • November 4, 2024
Lauren profile image F|S Team

Yes, you can use this robe pattern for a coat. Please keep in mind that some adjustments will need to make for your different fabrics as they will behave differently to linen and/or may not need as much treatment to the seams as linen frays.

Our patterns are designed for womens bodies, but you could easily adjust this pattern for men by adding or removing room in the mid section and hips.

There are actually quite a few very positive reviews of this pattern. So why is the single one star review the only one showing up for ratings?

Heather • May 1, 2023
Lauren profile image F|S Team

Hello, At the moment our site calculates the star rating based on the written reviews only, Not the photo only reviews since they don't have a star rating attached to them. We encourage you to leave a written review and a photo to show off your finished items. Thank you :)

I'd like to make this with waffle linen (IS010) and know I'll need a larger size pattern. But how much larger?? One size? Two sizes?

Judi • July 28, 2022
Lauren profile image F|S Team

Hello, We don't recommend sizing up the pattern to account for shrinkage, since the shrinkage is uneven. Rather you should work from the washed fabric and cut your actual size. For more information about the shrinkage on this fabric please see our help center article: support.fabrics-store.com/hc/en-us/articles/4422004743821-To-Pre-wash-or-Not-to-Pre-wash-Shrinkage-in-IS010-Waffle-Weave

Hi! The waffle shrinks differently warp and weft. The garment size increase would depend on the way the pattern pieces are placed on the fabric. The width of cloth shrinks 17% (weft of the fabric) and 28% on the length ( warp of the fabric). Please send us an email and Lauren will be able to walk you through the best way to make the garments out of the waffle cloth. Have a great day!

post garment size in phota

I'd benefit from reviewers adding their regular clothing size and also the size of the pattern they used so their photo can display how something fits. Some fabric store patterns run large so it's difficult to know which size I want to use.

Just in time for Halloween

I ordered Capucine with the intention of it being my first FS pattern, envisioning a collection of beautiful Fabric Store pattern tubes neatly lined up in my sewing room ready for my next burst of creativity. I SO wanted to love FS patterns after decades of using name brand patterns. I usually wear a size 14 or 16, but followed the measurements in the instructions and went with a size 12. The robe is so huge that the shoulder seams are almost to my elbows. The sleeves are six inches too long. The collar facing, sewn right sides together to the body per the instructions now has fusible interfacing on the outside. Don't we fuse the interfacing to the wrong side? I've decided to wear this garment to a Halloween party dressed as a Novice Sewist Trouble is, I've been sewing for over 50 years and have tackled some very complicated projects (successfully). My friends will be SO surprised that with all this sewing experience I can't complete a simple robe (although I've made many robes in the past). I spend hours poring over Fabric Store's fabric and patterns and I SO wanted to love your products. Very sad and frustrating. :(

We're so sorry you had a hard time with this pattern. We have a photographed tutorial which shows you how to sew the collar, which does indeed have the interfacing attached to the WS of the fabric. You can find this in our Help Center. Our premium patterns also come with 1: 1 support, so we hope you'll take advantage of this the next time you feel stuck, or something isn't quite looking right.

Here is a pix of my sis ( who gives permission to use this image :)). It is her bday present from me. It was made ( by me ) from - i think 5.7 oz - and i dyed tbe fabric blue (royal blue rit dye) prior to cutting tbe pattern.

As always, Fabrics-Store's printed patterns are such a treat to receive and open in the mail. I love popping open the top of the cylindrical tube to then pulling out the neatly rolled pattern and instruction booklet. I'm #teamtrace all the way when it comes to paper patterns so while it is a bit of an extra step for me in the sewing process, the differently colored sizes make quick work of the job as it's easy to identify exactly which size I'm tracing off. The pattern for the robe itself came in at only 9 pattern pieces, or 8 if you're like me and chose to use premade seam binding versus making the bias binding from scratch. If you don't have an almost 1.5 year old baby that demands to be held or followed around the house during all waking hours, then cutting out and sewing up this lovely robe takes up not much time and comes together quite smoothly thanks to the clear instructions and diagrams.

Whenever I pick a pattern, I always look for a unique, defining feature in its construction. Whether it's beautifully sloping princess seams, a gentle v-shaped yoke, or one shoulder and arm piece for a button-down shirt, I love recreating little details for a high quality garment. The Capucine shirt is no exception.

Fena • February 7, 2023

More of the features we enjoyed about this pattern: Amanda said the robe feels like she's being hugged by a soft blanket. This seems like an endorsement for the fabric and the cut of this pattern! We love the thickness of the robe tie, the side slits and the curved pockets. It just couldn't be more professional or adorable. I think you will agree, that this pattern is a win.
