Customer Questions and Answers
If I want a little more fitted dress should I go a size down?
Yes, you can go down a size, or blend sections of your pattern from a larger size to a smaller one in order to have a slimmer fit.
Can the Astrid pattern be lengthened to below the knee without ruining the shape?
Hello, This pattern already comes with a version which sits below the knee, so you won't need to worry about adjusting it :)
Does a facing have to be sewn in, or can that step be skipped, and the edge just French seamed or roll-hemmed?
The facing provides support along the bias cut edges like the neckline and curvature of the skirt and created a professional finish. It is necessary to this design.
This pattern's is "advanced". Looks pretty simple to me. What techniques or other sewing skills are needed that makes its skill level advanced?
Our designers labelled this dress as advanced because if making this in 100% linen fabric, applying a facing along the bias cut skirt edges much be done carefully to avoid over stretching the fabric, and ensure the pieces match up correctly.
Does this have pockets?
Yes, there are inseam pockets which are optional for all views :)
Would it work to extend the sleeve to wrist-length? Since it's all one piece, I'm concerned it wouldn't drape nicely. Any hack you would recommend?
You can extend the sleeve to the wrist, making sure to maintain the tapering in the line. Another option would be to add a long cuff or piece cut on grain and added to the end of the sleeve.
The dress looks to be two pieces for the front and one piece for the back with additional pieces for the belt and facing. Is this correct? Would stitched inverted pleats on the back make sense to control the evenness of the gathers on the back of the dress?
Yes, those piece are correct for the pattern. If you want the dress to neatly sit around the waist, you can add in your desired gathers or pleats.
Hi, the Astrid pattern is listed as Advanced Level sewing, but looks quite simple. I'm skittish of advanced level, especially as I need a 16/18 combo size and must adjust the patterns for my large bust. May I ask what advanced techniques are required?
The reason why the pattern tea labelled this pattern as advanced is because sewing of the long facing that goes all around the dress. You need to take extra care in not stretching the facing and the dress as you sew it on. Linen can stretch easily when cut on the bias or close to the bias. We have included plenty of pro-tips to help you achieve great results and avoid stretching out the fabric.
