German, early 20th century artist Josef Albers spent his lifetime exploring the ambient properties of color, and how their interactions could alter perceptions in the human eye. He experimented with just about every chromatic relationship possible, in a language of stark, simple geometric abstraction, allowing the radiance of his stacked colors to take centre stage. Shades of bright orange like TANGELO featured time and again in Albers’ art, often as glowing auras of light in amongst darker or more muted hues. Through balancing this shade with deep greens, grays, blues, and dark reds, he demonstrated how its properties could shift, alter, and even appear to advance or recede on the flat picture plane, proving that the way we experience color is all about context. He wrote, “When you really understand that each color is changed by a changed environment, you eventually find that you have learned about life as well as about color.”

At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

Our FS Signature Finish was developed exclusively for us using a special process that makes this linen super soft with a comfy, classic look you'll love at first sight.

As a bonus, this process removes almost all of the initial shrinkage, giving you more fabric to get your projects done.
This finish makes the linen as soft as butter. Yep, 100% linen that feels and drapes and sews as no linen you have ever encountered. Because the fabric has been pre-shrunk for you - it will be less than the base cloth width.

I shared an article on The-Thread blog about how much we love this linen. "BRIGHT Linens Worth Enjoying"

This COLOR. I fell in love with it immediately. It is Tangelo! It is satsuma! It is orange peel! Oh— it is so so so lovely. It is bright, but with just a hint, just a DASH, of richness that makes it feel like it isn't neon. I've been ordering from Fabrics Store since 2017 and they never miss! The 5.3 oz weight is perfect for home or apparel— it has structure and a beautiful drape, but doesn't feel too bulky. You can follow my sewing adventures on IG firstcampaign!

I was immediately drawn to the Tangelo and Peach Pink that's reminiscent of the bold paisley prints of the 70s but staying in the monochromatic lane. The colours also reminded me of Caitlyn's series on dopamine dressing using another fabric in this range, called Love Bird. The colors scream summer and happy. It brings on the bold statement needed to balance the silhouette. Now was the time to investigate and decide what patterns to use.

The all-purpose 5.3 oz linen from FS is my favorite to use. There are so many color options, and its weight is versatile for pants, blouses and dresses! After pre-washing, I had my fresh rotary blade, sharpened chalk, and new machine needles to start working! The transfer of my vision to the linen felt controlled (granted, I had made 5 versions prior, so a little muscle memory helped). The pleats stayed crisp in the linen and I was on cloud nine seeing them come together.

A quick search online will find you many articles that support the fact that bright colors can positively affect your mood. I have had a rough season since the start of 2023 so maybe this is why I am enthralled with what I just made with Fabrics-Store Raspberry and Tangelo Signature Finish Linens. They are so pleasing together and what Anna Nunez did with them is even better.

I love the signature finish linen so much, it washes so beautifully and only gets better with wear. I love how it sews up too; I often suggest it to friends who are getting comfortable with garment sewing because it feels elevated but is so easy to sew with. I usually gravitate towards neutral colors in my wardrobe, but this Tangelo linen just jumped out at me. It felt like a little bit of a risk for me, but it ended up being perfect.
