Soft, dusty and muted pinks like SAHARA ROSE were a mainstay in the art of American minimalist artist Agnes Martin, painted in modulated, uneven textures to suggest faded memories and nostalgic longing. Martin was adept at combining simple geometric patterns like stripes, bands and grids with these muted, romantic colors – this was her way of investing the cool language of minimalism with complex, deeply felt emotions which reached high for the sublime. Reflecting on the embedded feelings inside her art, she noted, ‘Art is the concrete representation of our most subtle feelings.

At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 59 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

Our FS Signature Finish was developed exclusively for us using a special process that makes this linen super soft with a comfy, classic look you'll love at first sight.

As a bonus, this process removes almost all of the initial shrinkage, giving you more fabric to get your projects done.
This finish makes the linen as soft as butter. Yep, 100% linen that feels and drapes and sews as no linen you have ever encountered. Because the fabric has been pre-shrunk for you - it will be less than the base cloth width.

What does shrinkage less than the base cloth width mean?

Since this fabric has been pre-shrunk it will be narrower in width than the base IL019 fabrics without a finish. The shrinkage on the width is very minimal.

I was hoping to get a sample of this fabric color, but there's no option for that at the moment. Will samples be available at some point?

The Sahara Rose softened linen is just the right shade of pink and easy to work with!

Lyn • December 22, 2022

I used the lightweight and very soft 'muslin sleeping rabbits white' fabric for the underdress and the medium weight (5.3oz) 'sahara rose soft linen' for the pinafore. Both fabrics are wonderful to work with! Color-blocked. Wavy. Goodness. Enter the ME2033 sewing pattern from Know Me Patterns! The Wave Set, as I informally call it pattern number ME 2033, is a loud and fun outfit choice together, or great as individual pieces. It's a pullover tank or cap sleeve crop top with a square neckline and barrel leg pants with side seam pockets and elastic at the back waistband. I have been inspired by mashing colors together and different shapes and ways to color block garments, especially with linens. The cover image is done up in Autumn Gold and Sahara Rose. It looks fantastic in all sorts of color combinations like the ones below from Fabrics Store linens!

Beeswax Food Wraps. The idea occurred to me that these food wraps would be a very cute Valentine Gift with a little card and treat. I have heard so much about these food wraps as a more sustainable option than cling-wrap or plastic wrap for food storage. Typically, it seems like people use cotton more than linen for this project. Here are my thoughts on this: all the natural antibacterial, hypoallergenic and sustainable properties of linen make linen a great choice for me! I used Fabrics-store's Light Pink Softened, Sahara Rose SF and Barn Red 5.3oz as well as the Pink Cotton Gingham 3.6oz and can see that I might have preferred the 3.7 oz for the linens just for the thinner fabric but am still pleased with my project in both linen and cotton.

To make this infant's coat/robe I used the Sleeping Rabbit muslin for the lining and the outer fabric is the Sahara Rose signature linen.
