French Post-Impressionist painter Paul Cezanne spent much of his adult life in Provence, and his mature paintings were a response to his immediate environment, conveying the light, hazy colors and undulating forms of the South of France.

Pale, airy blues like Provence were a recurring feature, spreading out across vast stretches of cloudless sky, craggy mountains, or still patches of sparkling, crystalline water. Cezanne made it his mission to capture the essence of nature as he saw it, writing in his diary, “I owe you the truth in painting and I will tell it to you.

At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

Our FS Signature Finish was developed exclusively for us using a special process that makes this linen super soft with a comfy, classic look you'll love at first sight.

As a bonus, this process removes almost all of the initial shrinkage, giving you more fabric to get your projects done.
This finish makes the linen as soft as butter. Yep, 100% linen that feels and drapes and sews as no linen you have ever encountered. Because the fabric has been pre-shrunk for you - it will be less than the base cloth width.

Would you recommend this weight of linen to make a (men's) lightweight summer suit?

I would recommend this fabric for the pants, but this fabric is only ideal for a jacket if it will be lines and had enough structure inside the jacket. otherwise our 4C22 fabric has the right amount of structure for a lined and unlined jacket.

I love that you give us the weight of the linens, but I can't find the width of the linens listed. I'm I missing the details somewhere?

Hi, Maureen. Are Provence and Wisteria pretty close in color? What is the difference between the two?

Nata • March 14, 2023
Maureen profile image F|S Team

No they are different - the Wisteria has more purple less blue than the Provence.

How does Provence compare to Alure?

Jeanne • March 12, 2023

Provence is brighter and more vibrant than the Allure which has a bit of a grey undertone and is more muted.

Beautiful color for fair skinned people.

I really love this new FS color. I sometimes have a hard time finding linen colors that look really great with my redhead with pink/blue undertones fair skin, but this one is smashing! The color is clear, not greyed or muted. If you're a fan of wisteria or gouache, I think you will love this one. The new color Skylight is great, too! So thankful to FS for making such a wide range of colors, there's something for everyone!

Table cloth

Fabric arrived cut on grain, no loss there! It was a Joy to work with when hemming and mitering corners. I only needed 2-1/2 yds our of the 3 yards ordered. Plan to use the extra half yard to trim edges of placemats I am making. I tore the fabric rather than cut anf it was a clean, straight tear. Then I surged before turning over a 1" hem. The photo was taken before washing as I didn't need to address shrinkage because the overhang was 10", more than enough. After washing it dried on the line in under an hour and ironed out soft and beautiful. Definitely recommend if you are looking for a casual style table cloth.

If you're looking for a great soft blue in amazing linen - Provence is it.

Alisha • July 25, 2024

Made this dress for my daughter Anna to attend a party in SW Florida - she was very please with the color. Her husband is also wearing a linen shirt I made.

For my color blocked vision, I decided on two beautiful shades of blue (also my power colors) in a midweight linen. The colors Provence and Bright Cobalt evoke confidence and when together, the dress is unique to me. The medium weight linen is my favorite to work with due to its versatility. It's smooth to sew with, presses easily with a bit of steam and feels amazing on my skin (especially in hot climates). The signature finish is a process that pre-shrinks the material as well as softens the fabric before sewing. After several toiles, wearable and not, I ended with this birthday dress!

Amazing material! Made for my 2 year old granddaughter :)

Christine • April 7, 2024

I made this dress using the Emily wrap dress pattern, the IL019 lined it with the IL030. I think it came out wonderful. This linen is truly addicting!
