IL019 All-purpose Pearl Grey Fs Signature Finish - 100% Linen Fabric - Medium (5.3 oz/yd2), Width 58"
The tactile, shimmering silver of Pearl Grey made its way into the late work of American Pop and conceptual artist Ed Ruscha, forming the uneven patinas and tactile textures of old silver screen movies.
For Ruscha, who has lived much of his adult life in Los Angeles, this luminescent shade of pale grey became a romantic, nostalgic longing, not just for old school Hollywood cinema, with its scratches, splatters and rips, but also for the simpler and less cluttered culture of the past, before capitalism and mass-media aggressively took hold. Ruscha explains his deep fascination with the past, writing, “I have always operated on a kind of waste-retrieval method … I retrieve and renew things that have been forgotten or wasted.”
At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.
Our FS Signature Finish was developed exclusively for us using a special process that makes this linen super soft with a comfy, classic look you'll love at first sight.
As a bonus, this process removes almost all of the initial shrinkage, giving you more fabric to get your projects done.
This finish makes the linen as soft as butter. Yep, 100% linen that feels and drapes and sews as no linen you have ever encountered. Because the fabric has been pre-shrunk for you - it will be less than the base cloth width.

Customer Questions and Answers
I would love a photo of the 5.3 ounce grays together.
Hello, if you are trying to discern which of the greys is right for you, please send us an email or order the sample chips. Photos and monitor screens are not 100% accurate due to lighting, so if you need a specific color, samples are the way to go! Thank you :)
Since you no longer have the color "drizzle" I am wondering if you think this is close/similar of all your options. I think quartz is too dark. thank you.
This color and Grey Cashmere are the closest matches we have in stock right now.
Is this fabric treated to be wrinkle resistant..I have allergies to textiles with wrinkle resistant chemicals.
It is not wrinkle resistant but rather wrinkles less since we have already laundered it. We do use no harmful non toxic softener for our signature finish and it has passed the Oeko-Tex certification process.
Absolutely great quality as usual, and a very beautiful silvery grey!
This color is a tad darker than expected. I think I can wear as pants. Was thinking a lounger but this should be worn in public.
I purchased some Pearl Grey signature finish to make a wrap skirt. It was perfect in every way. I used to deal in pearls and that's what this looked like - the color of some unbleached pearls, the soft visual texture. This fabric was easy to sew even with the skirts details.
I just opened my box with 19 yards of Pearl Grey linen which I planned to use for my new sheet set. Well...I am disappointed. First, the color. I would never imagine to use a word "pearl" in its description - it's simply boring mouse grey, way darker than I expected! Secondly, the quality. This supposedly Signature Finish fabric doesn't look any different than any regular one, plus has some kind of weird blueish lint weaved in (I just hope very much that it will go away after washing???) So, unfortunately, I won't be making new sheets from this unattractive color, and will try to find some other use for it. I would gladly return it, however to ship such a heavy box all the way to CA would be expensive. Well, it is what it is...
