Torn scraps of everyday life, from old bus tickets to old newspaper pages take on a strange and spiritual magic in the hands of the great Dada collagist Kurt Schwitters, who refashioned them into richly textural, densely layered collages.

Schwitters had a particular fascination in buff shades of off-white, beige and caramel alike MARZIPAN Linen, because these were the appealingly humane colors of stained newsprint, drawing paper and old books, the tones he held in his hand, read from, and carried with him every day. By relying on these warm hues, Schwitters invested in his art a deeply humane warmth, one that is as appealingly tactile today as it was almost 100 years ago.

At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

What is used to soften your linen? Is it a chemical process? Is it something natural used to naturally soften it instead of adding chemicals to the fabric?

Yes, our fabrics are softened using natural processes and softeners similar to our linen softening potion. These fabrics are then certified by OkeoTex to standard 100 to be free from over 100 harmful chemicals.

Is this similar in color to the old color named "biscotti" - I think it was a color in the IL041 line a few years back.

Lori • June 15, 2023

The Biscotti had more red in it. I have emailed you a side by side comparison so you will be able to see the significant difference between the 2 colors.

Marzipan is sweet!

I grabbed this from the Doggie Bag when making a purchase to make a wedding gift. This is the first time I noticed this color and it coordinates well with other colors in my wardrobe. I serged the cut ends, washed and dried and ironed it an love it. I plan to cut out a Kersoe top from the Cashmerette book - perfect for summer in my part of California.

We love neutral linen. This color is rich yet soft. Marzipan is almost a toasted cream. The texture is wonderful and the drape is really nice. This has a full exaggerated sleeve and strappy top designed back just for her in this lovely 5.3 oz linen. It pairs so well with her classic jeans but I'm sure it would work well with shorts, skirts or other pants she has in her collection. If you don't have a bold shape in mind like we did, Fabrics-store has so many patterns to offer you options for garments to make with your Marzipan Linen.
