IL019 All-purpose Heron Softened - 100% Linen Fabric - Medium (5.3 oz/yd2), Width 58"
The leading 19th century Japanese artist Utagawa Yoshitora has a particular preference for crushed violet and indigo shades like HERON, weaving them into his intricate ukiyo-e woodblock prints in the most creative and inventive ways. Sometimes they are small accents of mysterious shadow peppered across still, tranquil scenes. Other times they fill much of the background, aiding in the grandiose drama and theatrical narratives for which he became world-renowned.
Throughout his career Yoshitora was incredibly prolific, creating standalone artworks as well as illustrations for books and newspapers. Storytelling was always at the heart of his art, and color was a vital tool in his artistic trade.
At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.
The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Customer Questions and Answers
I hope you restock Heron. Thanks.
How does Heron compare with Purple Sage (which is now sold out)? Thank you.
Heron is darker color and more blue with purple sage being a dusty grape.
Is there a difference between Premium softened and Softened? Nico dress pattern calls for Premium softened.
We have a difference between our FS Signature Finish and our Softened finish, put simply, it won't impact your Nico pattern, it is simply the softness you prefer in your linen fabric when your receive it. Both finished will become the same softness after repeated washing and wearing as linen naturally softens over time. For more information about our fabric finishes, please see this article from our Help Center: blog.fabrics-store.com/2023/04/09/sewing-glossary-full-bust-adjustment-tutorial/
What is the "softened" treatment? Particularly, what, if anything, is added to, or coated (?) on to the fabric? Thanks! :)
A silicone softener is applied to the linen to give it a smooth hand. This is a non-harmful chemical that has been approved under our Oeko-Tex 100 Standard certification.
I've been waiting for this color to "re-appear", I purchased it a couple years ago and I love it-maybe it was available and I had missed it-anyway I'm so glad I found it again. Made a lovely little top with it.
I'm a senior with years of swing behind me. I originally found this site through looking for linen for historical re-election creations (SCA). Today I wear linen most of the time because it will last just about forever, and it's great for dealing with hot weather. This purchase will become a dress that I'm adapting from a commercial pattern. If I remember to, I'll post a pic when it's done. This linen is wonderful fabric: smooth, even weave, soft, durable, and delightful. It's naturally cool to the touch. It's easy to work with, and also lovely to embroider and/or bead.
Very Nice fabric at a very affordable price.... will order more but I wish that the 1/2 yard option would be offered.... a top needs 1-1/2 yd of fabric ....in most cases more than a yard and a lot less than 2 yards...
Love this color!
This beautiful linen is a sophisticated, rich, deeper shade of periwinkle that I bought to make flowing summer pants. I also bought the Ami pattern for the pants and after reading the instructions I can see that there are really couture finishes in this garment. However, the instructions are very detailed and accompanied by photos and I will give it a go!
