American Abstract Expressionist painter Mark Rothko spent his lifetime mastering the emotional impact of color, playing with how varying intensities of hues, built up in layer upon layer with his distinctive feathered brushstrokes could infuse his paintings and prints with the depths of our raw, exposed feelings.

Vivid shades like that of EMPIRE YELLOW often made an appearance in Rothko’s art throughout his long career, sometimes pushed to the edges like an aura of light, other times blazing and burning in the centre with the glowing warmth of fire. Either way, in his hands, yellow seemed to express something hot, fiery and intense, like the blinding heat of the sun.

At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

Our FS Signature Finish was developed exclusively for us using a special process that makes this linen super soft with a comfy, classic look you'll love at first sight.

As a bonus, this process removes almost all of the initial shrinkage, giving you more fabric to get your projects done.
This finish makes the linen as soft as butter. Yep, 100% linen that feels and drapes and sews as no linen you have ever encountered. Because the fabric has been pre-shrunk for you - it will be less than the base cloth width.

I am guessing the IL019 is a fabric code- Is this the same as the Zenith I purchased? Zenith has an exotic green hue not the fresh lemon citrus I had hoped for.

Lindsay • March 31, 2023
Maureen profile image F|S Team

Yes the IL019 designates the quality/style number for this group - the Zenith and the Empire are the same base cloth.

Is the "Anna Rose" pattern shown in this color? Zenith? or another yellow?

If this is the pattern you are referring to Anna Rose Knife Pleated Button Up Dress Tutorial and Free Pattern featured on our blog, the color shown in the photos is IL019 Autumn Gold.

is this close to the marigold color from last spring ?

India • March 8, 2023

Unfortunately not, the Marigold had more orange in it, this one is a bright yellow without the orange. I have emailed you a side by side comparison.

Beautiful fabric

The color of this fabric is lighter than pictured, a gorgeous bright, mustard yellow. I haven't decided yet what I want to do with it, just building up a stash right now. I'm very pleased with this one!

A medieval fighter's gambeson made from IL19 with handmade bias tape trim in firecracker red- I think. Lacing rings for closure. Ignore the horrible black stain please! I didnt get a pic of it until after the client wore it to fight in. My first attempt. I dont have a shop yet - just word of mouth - but I am on fb Kim Stopher
