At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

Our FS Signature Finish was developed exclusively for us using a special process that makes this linen super soft with a comfy, classic look you'll love at first sight.

As a bonus, this process removes almost all of the initial shrinkage, giving you more fabric to get your projects done.
This finish makes the linen as soft as butter. Yep, 100% linen that feels and drapes and sews as no linen you have ever encountered. Because the fabric has been pre-shrunk for you - it will be less than the base cloth width.

As it has been treated with your Signature Finish, how will it dye with Procion MX Fiber reactive dyes? Thank you.

Caryl • March 21, 2024
Lauren profile image F|S Team

It will still dye up wonderfully after it has been thoroughly pre-washed and scoured with the dyer's recommended scouring agent.

Hi! it has been suggested to me to wear 'taupe' instead of white, where the 'taupe' is somewhere in between cream and purest white. Where would you put this color, antique white? Or would you guess some other color? Thanks!

The Antique white is a beautiful cream shade not too yellow and fits well in the range you mentioned. We have samples available for purchase to make sure this color will work for you.

Does the signature finish interfere with dyeing?

Sharon • March 2, 2023
Maureen profile image F|S Team

Many of our customers have successfully dyed this linen using a variety of different methods. We always recommend that since there is a softener on the linen, you test the dye method and or paints you are wanting to use before you proceed with the entire project just to be sure you do not have any issues.

Is the IL019 heavy enough to make a dress that would not require a lining or slip.

Maria • February 28, 2023
Maureen profile image F|S Team

The IL019 is the most popular choice for apparel. Some colors, mostly the lighter shades will have more transparency in certain lighting. You may want to order a swatch first to make sure you would be okay for your needs.

Is this sheer? I purchased the IL019 in Dove and I had to line the dress.

Antique White

I love the color of this linen. It was in the doggie bag. I would like to buy more for drapes but can't find this Antique White color in your selection. ?

Absolutely lovely

Antique White is more like a candlelight shade of white instead of ivory. As you can see from the other posts Antique White easily lends itself to heirloom techniques, projects, and vintage clothing. Of course its also great for contemporary garments. It would be great in home furnishings for a less rustic look than the Natural and Mix Natural.

I've used this linen several times for my textiles business. I've handprinted my own designs on it and sewed table runners and and pillows for happy customers. I'm about to sew up a toiletries bag with it. The weight and texture of it is just beautiful. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a light sand color.

a high low blouse

I posted a picture of the high-low blouse I made using the pattern available here at Fabrics-Store, except I didn't use the elongated pockets. The fabric was a pleasure to work with and forgiving of my errors. It was the first time I used bias tape to find a neckline. This sturdy blouse will serve me very well over the next months!

medium weight antique white linen

Love this linen! washes up beautifully, and great to sew on. The color is perfect..coordinates with the other colors and weights. Normally I Use the heavy weight, but I'm really liking the medium lately for clothing.

Lovely creamy color, and so soft, I've made pants, tunics and other items with this gorgeous linen. Sews wonderfully! See the pictures for a tunic I made. Love all your linens and am always happy with the results of anything I sew.

Love this Linen

I made a pair of linen lounging pajamas with IL019 Antique White linen. The color is just as it appears on my monitor; a beautiful greyed-down ivory, reminiscent of old linens. I washed and dryed the fabric twice to pre-shrink, and ironed prior to cutting, hand monogramming, and sewing. The IL019 is soft and comfy and the weight is perfect for these PJs: not too heavy but not too sheer to wear in mixed company. I'm SEW happy with the results that I am in process of making two more sets in different styles and colors of IL019.

Love it more over time

Made bedroom curtain from this...loved them right away but can't get over how much more I've enjoyed them at various times of the day...this color is complex. Has undertones of greens at certain times, blue at others and turquoise at night. Just beautiful and so much more interesting than optic white which I almost chose.

Wonderful Stuff

I have never seen any linen from the Fabrics Store that I did not think is fabulous, and this is no exception. Must say the enlargement pictured looks coarser and a bit darker than it really is. It's lighter and quite soft and relatively fine. I haven't got it made up yet, but I am going to use mine to make a hooded cape for a Druid in a play. The tunic that goes under will be a little darker and heavier. For this I am using some pieces of various shades that I got from the Doggie Bag. Right now I am envying the Druid, because I would like to be using the material for something for me!

The shorts New Look 6055 are out of Antique white. They are lined. The blouse, New Look 6720 is out of Parchment with the collar in Antique white because I didn't have enough of the Parchment. I got both fabrics from the Doggie Bag. I find that with linen if I don't have enough of one fabric I can easily use another color to make up for it and it adds interest.

Love this linen! I dyed the completed top to this gorgeous cerulean blue. Guaranteed to get loads of wear with white linen pants.

My favorite 'white'. Its soft and the perfect not bright white. I made this Roscoe blouse hack in antique white and then again in barn red because its the perfect shirt and great linen.

This is Burda pattern 127 from the May 2020 edition of Burda Style. Not quite a T-shirt and not a blouse is the given description. Very easy make in an hour. But then there's the tracing. :) The IL019 Antique White will become a favorite go-to fabric.

I used the softened antique white and potting soil linens to create a this contrast shirt. I absolutely loved working with these linens, they are a perfect weight, super soft and easy to sew! I highly recommend these fabrics as they are such good quality and will add an extra level to you project. Instagram georgias_portfolio

Initially, I had grand plans when I first received the Cameron pattern- my plans being the addition of a dramatic tiered ruffle hem and full romantic sleeves to match. So eager to pursue this concept, I did not realize until halfway through the toile what a mistake I was making! To create such drastic changes altered the very essence of the Cameron dress – its simplicity. I paused in my process to reconsider, this time paying closer attention to what the fabric was trying to tell me. The linen, a softened mid weight in Antique White, gave an heirloom quality with its color and weight. I decided to stay true to the pattern – stripping away a few details to incorporate drawn thread work as a subtle nod to an older time. A time when handmade garments were not just clothing, but family treasures made with tender patience and the intent to pass down to another generation.

A basic heirloom technique known as "Drawn" or "Pulled" thread work embroidery. This type of embroidery is achieved by gently pulling out individual thread along the grain line to create a small gap in the fabric. A combination of hand stitches is then used to create simple to elaborate designs within that gap. Step by step tutorial available here: blog.fabrics-store.com/2020/09/20/sewing-glossary-how-to-hemstitch-basic-drawn-thread-work-embroidery-technique/
