A visual reproduction of French Ticking that combines classic design elements with a modern color palette and pays homage to the exquisite example of textile manufacturing.

Using a more modern color palette allowed us to coordinate them with several of our most popular solid colors already available in our linen collection.  This cloth is woven in the Natural, White, Red color way. Just look for the matching color names in solid colors, and you will have a shade match to the Ticking.

IL087 Normandy is a 59 inch wide, 100% linen fabric constructed using long-staple wet combed linen with 32% higher density than our All-Purpose medium weight linen. This fabric has the thickness needed in interior design and to last for ages.

Our design team replicated the unique elements of the French Ticking fabric, a tight herringbone weave and yarn-dyed threads, to bring you an authentic but updated version of the time-honored original.

The dyes we used for the threads make the fabric colorfast and the bold stripe patterns will not bleed onto your main cloth allowing for at-home laundering without issue.

The dyeing of the yarns before weaving the design allowed us to create a vivid contrast of the stripes to the background color and the patterns will retain their true shade, unlike the imitation ticking that uses print to apply the designs.

Normandy collection is a must-have fabric to create French Interiors allowing you to replicate not just the structural architecture but to carry the style throughout the soft interior touches. This fabric design adds soft visual breaks to cottage-style interiors and softens ascetic designs. Design created and available exclusively at F|S.

The Premier Finish undergoes a two-step process to give the cloth a luxurious, supple feel right out of the box.

First, we apply a softener to give the fabric a silkier surface. Then, strong blasts of air are blown into the woven cloth. This beats up the fibers to make them softer and mimics the fiber bending process that the fabric undergoes when you've used it a lot.

This finishing process gives the fabric a much softer and more luxurious hand. It will be less prone to deep creases and have less linting. Shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration based on the fabric type ( thread size, count, weave type).

If I use this for upholstering dining chair seats, do I need to pre-wash it? I'm concerned that pre-washing will make it prone to becoming baggy from sitting and moving around on the chair seats.

Jana • January 28, 2024
Lauren profile image F|S Team

Hello, Washing can tighten up the weave of the fabric. Either way, warmth and repeated pressure on seats will make the fabric wear wether it has been pre-washed or not.

Can you tell me which red in the IL019 is the best match to the Rio Red in the Normandy French Ticking?

Susan • February 19, 2023

IL019 Signature Finish Red Traviata or IL019 Crimson would be the ones to look at and order swatches of.

I would like to make a linen slipcover for a loveseat and use this Normandy Rio Red stripe to sew covers for the cushions. What would be a good weight solid color linen to use for the slipcover that will blend well with the Normandy French ticking? Also, may make some curtains for the windows in front of the loveseat so a suggestion for that too would be appreciated. Thanks.

Most of our customers use the IL019 natural or colors and IL037 Natural as a solid compliment to this linen. If a heavier linen is needed then please take a look at the 4C22 natural and softened colors. I would take a look at these weights for the curtains as well. Samples are available for purchase to see which weight would work best for your project. This is a link to the reds we have in the IL019 and 4C22 qualities.

Simply stunning

Due to time restraints, I will be sewing a tablecloth for my dining room table after Christmas. The fabric has the right weight to it and I know it will look fabulous when completed!

Great for garments too

I was surprised at the softness and drape of the fabric after a very hot water wash. I made the Fibre Mood's Alia blouse and wore it to church this morning. A few members recognized the fabric because they are also very satisfied customers. Your linen doesn't disappoint. The skirt behind the blouse is the softened IL020 linen in Natural.

The quality of this striped ticking is just fabulous. Such a beautiful hand to it - it feels and looks luxurious. I was lucky to find a small amount in the doggie bag. I'm planning covers for my throw pillows.

Ticking for more than bedding

I needed a few more tailor's hams and was able to locate a source for sawdust. After a few false starts, even filling them works quickly and the finished product functions beautifully during and after use.

Here is a picture of the slipcover I made using 4C22 Rustic Mix Natural Fs Premier Finish - 100% Linen - Heavy (7.1 oz/yd2) Pillow made with French Ticking Rio Red Next will make slipcovers for nearby chair out of both the Rio red (winter) and Allure blue (summer) french ticking. This furniture gets daily heavy wear so washability matters!
