This is a 19" wide twin to the 4C22 Rustic linen line.

Woven out of the same size thread and with the same thread density this IL084 is just woven to be narrow. That means less cutting time for you and you can get to the fun part of using your linen items sooner.

At a heavier weight of 7.1 ounces a square yard this 100% linen is referred to as Rustic due to its more textured look and feel. Durable and perfect for projects that require just a bit more substance.

Yarn Dyed fabrics are made using threads that are dyed separately before being woven. This allows for a larger variety of patterns and designs that stand out from the base fabric color. Design created exclusively for F|S.

Narrow width cloth is great for:

  • Shopping bags
  • Purses
  • Placemats
  • Runners
  • Decorative pillows
  • Kitchen towels
  • Appliance covers
  • Potholders
  • Cushions

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

I'd like to make a table runner and would like to know if it's recommended to wash the linen prior to sewing ?

Patricia • December 13, 2023

If you would like your table runner to be an exact size, then we recommend washing before sewing to remove shrinkage from the fabric. This fabric shrinks a couple of inches if you wanted to sew first, then wash, so you could add a little length to skip the pre-wash.

what seam allowance do you use for the dish towels?

When hemming the towels, we used 1/2" folded twice for our hems. If you would like the tutorial, we have it available at this link: support.fabrics-store.com/hc/en-us/articles/17397790738957-Easy-Kitchen-Towels-in-IL084-Linen-Fabric-Sewing-Tutorial

Which of these patterns have colors that coordinate ? Looking for cream rather than gray. TIA.

The natural shade is more of a grey taupe but some will coordinate with our IL019 colors - the cream shade would pair with Angora nicely. Please search colors by the color squares you will find under the tab all linen fabric posted at the top of our site.

Accidently -On Purpose

I wrapped a pot of soup with my four freshly finished linen kitchen towels for transportation to my sick daughter and new-son-n-law. They loved them so much I didn't have the heart to ask for them back. Now I'm deliberately gifting six linen dish towels with drawn thread embroidered hems to these newlyweds which means a set of 10 (!!). I've just received enough yardage to remake four mor kitchen towels for me to KEEP....*giggle*.

I discovered The Fabric Store less than a year ago and I must confess that my sewing room has become linen overwhelmed. I'm not complaining. Each sale offer and enticing doggie bag listing has tempted me beyond good sense. I love every piece of linen that I have received. I'm too busy sewing to take pictures but I do intend to post some, eventually. I have made clothing, kitchen items, and placemats table runners. Everything is fabulous. I especially enjoy the doggie bags. It is fun to design things using small pieces. I made a purse from a small, heavy, natural piece. Less than a dollar for the fabric.

I purchased 1 yard of IL084 979 Softened & was able to make 4 lovely fingertip towels for a friend's birthday. She was absolutely thrilled with them!! I simply sewed the sides and gave them a fun fringe hem.

I used the IL084 narrow width 979 softened. I left the selvedges as is because I liked the way it looked for this piece. Embroidery is from SWAK Embroidery. Finished length was 25". Will be a lovely Christmas gift.
