POINSETTIA Linen's full-bodied richness can breathe passionate, fiery life into the colours around it, igniting in them an electrifying, energising heat. For American born painter R.B. Kitaj this colour became a symbol of rebellious defiance, a statement of unflinching strength and determination.

At 5.1 ounces this Open Weave linen has a unique slightly sheer look and feel that sets it apart from other medium weight linens. Open weave does not make it less durable or versatile, just loosely woven.

This linen should be laundered in a cold wash-tumble dried on air setting or very low heat--line dry if possible.

Lorelei profile image Not as soft as I expected
Reviewer: Lorelei

The red is beautiful and I made a scarf from it using your instructions. It was far more coarse than I expected but that made the thread pulling easy. I expected it to tighten up after washing but it did not nor did it soften a lot. It is bulkier than I expected but if a bulky rustic look is desired, it is perfect!

Very disappointed!
Reviewer: Egle

I've been buying a lot of linen fabric from this store, and always been so happy with my purchases, and with their service, too. Unfortunately, not this time! I am giving one star- for beautiful red color. As for fabric, it's very sheer, coarse and stiff, almost like some kind of burlap cloth. Also, it has very loose weave. It definitely won't work for any of my projects. Description says "use: for women apparel". I wonder what kind of apparel could one make from it... I'm sure I will more linen from here, but I would like to return this one.

Reviewer: Judy

Lovely in appearance. I pulled threads every 6" across the width of the scarf, used a 3 thread serged edge and a simple fringe. The result was lovely in appearance but course and stiff. I have washed and rinsed on gentle and tried both hang to dry and low heat dry. Ironing removes creases but the touch is not what I would recommend for a scarf/shawl.

Your planned use should be suitable for a fabric that is totally see through. I need to rethink my use plan.

Much more stiff than other IL041
Reviewer: Linda

The red IL041 is much more stiff than the bleached or fog. I will have to figure out how to soften this up. Right now after first wash it is just st not comfortable.

Beautiful weight for shawl/scarf
Reviewer: Kathleen

I have found that the IL041 weight makes a lovely shawl/scarf. I buy 2-yard lengths, cut in half vertically, turn over long edges twice and straight stitch or zigzag, sew a safety stitch at least 2 inches from the ends and unravel. Leave it as a fringe or tie into tassels. The poinsettia color is outstanding for this. I ave been experimenting with eco dyeing the optic white and have obtained a gorgeous cornflower blue from black bean soaking water, a peachy pink from avocado pits and skins, and a lovely green from roibos tea. These make very appreciated gifts for about $12 each, depending on sale price.

IL041 Poinsettia Softened

This is a beautiful color. However, it is too loosely woven for my intended use. It looks more like burlap than linen.

Kim profile image Very shear
Reviewer: Kim

Ordered this knowing it was an open weave but expected more... very shear, texured, but soft. Washed hot, dryed, very little shrinkage, extremely wrinkled but ironed out nicely. Do not wash this with other colors due to a great deal of dryer fluff. I dried this with several other pieces and used an entire lint roller while ironing. My bad! This will hold pleats with a passion. I ordered half yard pieces so it was an okay price but I would not pay full price or even half price for this. Might make a nice over top/blouse or shear decorative curtains. It does have a nice drape. Will post finished product once I decide what to make with it.

TOO COARSE & OPEN WEAVE FOR A DRESS
Reviewer: Gayle

I wanted to make the bias cut dress with this, but the coarseness and the open weave of it makes it impossible. The color is beautiful, though. ANY ideas for this fabric??? I can't even use it in a quilt.

Hi! I am sorry to hear you don't like the cloth - yes it is definitely an open weave fabric. You are absolutely welcome to send it back unwashed and uncut. Send us an email ask@fabrics-store.com and I'll forward you the return instructions. Have an amazing weekend :)

Poinsettia open weave linen
Reviewer: Kristine

The color is nice. I was going to make a dress with this fabric, and now I will make a pulled thread project.

Very coarse, very open weave
Reviewer: Rachel

The feel of the fabric is not bad and the color is nice, but it is even coarser and more open a weave than the photo shows. It looks like a loose, bright red burlap. It could be interesting for home dec., but I had ordered it to make a round gown, which it absolutely will not work for making.

Lovely but coarse and stiff.

Here are two of the shawl/scarves I have made from the IL041. I suggest if you want to tie the fringe into tassels that you unravel at least 3" at each end to make it easier to knot.

I was surprised by the open weave of the fabric, when I saw it first time. But the colour!... It was magnificent! It took me no time to produce the top pictured. The fabric does need to be surged as soon as possible.
