Fabric By The Yard $12.89

At 5.1 ounces this Open Weave 57 inch wide linen has a unique slightly sheer look and feel that sets it apart from other medium weight linens. Open weave does not make it less durable or versatile, just loosely woven.

This linen should be laundered in a cold wash-tumble dried on air setting or very low heat--line dry if possible.

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Janyce profile image Softens after washing.

This fabric is loosely woven and a little transparent. I made a shirt with two layers in front that overlap. This is one of my favorites and it has gotten softer with each wash. I find it doesn't wrinkle much except near my narrow hem. I dry on a drying rack.

Linen shawl/scarf

To my surprise pulling a thread the middle of the fabric to provide a cutting line to turn the fabric into two long halves worked beautifully as the thread is both sturdy and smooth enough not to snag. I dreaded making the fringe but with a little auditory distraction I tied up all four ends of the two pieces in an hour or so. I put the hemmed and fringed pieces through the delicate cycle/cold in washer and dryer and was rewarded with wavy, almost fluffy fringe, the fabric itself being charmingly puckered (or so I think). My youngest daughter who is looking for earth tones to wear through the fall was delighted to accepted one of them as a gift while I am keeping the second. I think they make good sense as either shawls or scarves -- I find even the softest wool itchy to wear around my neck -- while the linen feels lightly rough in a pleasing way and is nearly sheer. The pattern is straightforward and works.

Wrap/scarf

Reviewer: Mae I made the scarves according to the directions provided then washed them in warm water, a short time in the dryer, on low, then hung to finish drying. Loved the way they turned out! They were an easy sew. I can't wait for cooler weather. It's still in the 90's here in FL. I actually made them in the Optic White as well. Love them both!

Nice, open weave.

This fabric is very pretty. The weave is much lighter appearing than any other weight I have experienced from the fabrics- store. I made a very nice scarf out of it the remnant I bought. Would make awesome clothes or window treatments.
