Linen is great for skin, water absorbency, and ease of garment care.
However, and I will be first to say, plain weave linen is too "flat" and not my first pick for items that need "snuggle volume".
Jacquard linen comes with "snuggle volume" but is just so heavy.

Having access to fabric engineers really helps... Allow me to introduce the double-sided IL028, 62 inch wide 100% linen fabric. Design created exclusively for F|S.

This cloth is only 6.6 ounces a square yard so just a smidge heavier than the All-Purpose medium weight.

How does it get the snuggle volume? The trick is in the weaving technique... the cloth is double sided. Not like reversible, but as in woven with two fabrics that are interconnected into one cloth throughout the surface area.

Once the fabric goes in the first wash and dry - if fluffs up everywhere the 2 sides aren't connected. It will shrink about 8% the weft of the fabric ( width-wise) and 8% warp of the fabric ( lengthwise). Shrinkage is based on a warm wash and low-heat dry.

You will feel like a creative genius when you pull the fabric out of the drier.

Double-Sided cloth is perfect for:

  • Robes
  • Placemats and napkins
  • Decorative Pillows
  • Pants and skirts
  • Jackets
  • Curtains
  • Bedding
  • Bags
  • and, of course, Throws

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Katie profile image Great but tricky fabric

This fabric has allot movement when working with it but love the outcome. It's two layers have some stretch and the inseams of my pants had to be removed and restitched. It is extremely comfortable fabric once sewn. I love the weight and texture.

K.j. profile image Not quite right for a narrow scarf but nice color

I bought only a yard of this and sewed a scarf from about 1/3 of it. I really love this kind of autumnal gold color, but I was disappointed in how this fabric puffed up (DID NOT puff up) after sewing and washing. Instead of a neat texture, my scarf just looks wrinkled. You'll see the fact in the gorgeous hoodie someone else made, but it doesn't look as good on a long, narrow scarf. Oh well. Lesson learned. Use this for something wider than a scarf!

Lovely

I bought two yards to make a summer throw for my sofa. Nice, deep golden color reversing to natural. Great texture from the dryer. I finished the edges by folding to the natural side, with mitered corners.

Unique fabric, beautiful color

I love gold colors and this one is rich and full of life. I made a simple hoodie (see photo) of my own design with flat felled seams so that it would be reversible, using a small zigzag on the felled seams rather than a straight stitch to make sure it didn't ravel and matching the bobbin to the reverse color. The stitching got lost in the texture of the fabric and wasn't visible as a zigzag. The fabric does shrink and produce a LOT of lint the first couple of washes, so I did that before cutting.

DBIL28 Golden Wheat/Natural Love how my simple pull on, elastic waist pants turned out. Love the fabric weight, color and texture. Had to take out inseams because of buckling, this double layer fabric has allot of movement and didn't like to be flat felled. Across from me is the rocker I had recovered in Loire. I believe the color name is Golden Harvest. In love with the "Golden" colors.

I love this fabric. It's a 2-sided gauze that is connected in the weaving process. It is so light & airy, dry hand with bounce. The kimono is a Folkwear pattern & the elastic waist pants are my own design w/welt pockets.
