Sean Scully’s art has a dense, hard-won quality that seems innately bound to the earth. Warm, metallic shades of grey like that of PEWTER Linen dominate his works of art, stacked into loose grids that resemble the hand-made structures of human civilization: drystone walls, slate rooves, or careworn paving stones.
Through the interplay of color, surface, texture and pattern, Scully weaves layers of poetic mystery into the structures of his art objects, leaving them suspended in the unknown. “That’s the job of art,” he says, “to undo the logic of the world.

At a lighter weight of 3.5 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is woven with finer threads to give it a smoother appearance. Referred to as lightweight or handkerchief linen, this fine, but surprisingly sturdy linen brings new meaning to the term "sheer elegance".

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

I recently purchased IL020 Handkerchief Linen to make a couple of fringed scarfs and cannot find the instructions for this. Could you please share the link?

Very Soft and Comfortable

Really beautiful fabric. Pleasure to sew up. This is a Japanese blouse pattern and flows really nicely with this fabric. Frays easily requiring seam finishing, but french seams worked well throughout.

Soft and light

I supplied the fabric and a friend of mine made me a simple ancient Roman style dress (which pins at the shoulder). I get so many complements. One person assumed that I'd had the dress forever because it had worn so soft and smooth, do I shared the top that it was like that after the second wash and they'd just have to start with the 3.5oz weight. I don't iron it, but just drying on a line gets out plenty smooth.

Light and beautiful

I have to say how much I loved working with this fabric! It's light and airy, and the color is perfect for many applications. I used this to make a chemise for my step-daughter, and I liked it so much that I will probably make one for myself!
