Hovering somewhere between green, blue and soft grey, MEADOW linen has a mysterious ambiguity, like misty fog gathering over a salty sea. In French Impressionist Claude Monet's hand, this color was transformed into flickering patches of cold, airy morning light or a smoggy, enveloping haze. The mutable, changeable nature of this color reflected Monet's fascination with the fleeting nature of space and atmosphere.

At a lighter weight of 3.5 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is woven with finer threads to give it a smoother appearance. Referred to as lightweight or handkerchief linen, this fine, but surprisingly sturdy linen brings new meaning to the term "sheer elegance".

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

What would you recommend this weight of linen for? Would it be appropriate for a flowy dress? Is it opaque?

This weight of linen is ideal for blouses and dresses, as well as some home decor items like curtains and napkins. The fabric is slightly sheer, and works well if lined with the same fabric for a perfect match. If you would liek this color in an opaque fabric, look for it in IL019 mediumweight.

Would this fabric be appropriate to make bed sheets? Or do you recommend a different weight linen? Thanks

Sheer and very blue

The linen is lovely and smooth but it's quite sheer and the color is much more light blue than the pale green pictured. Other colors I have ordered (besides Turquoise midweight) have been very accurate

I'm obsessed with this weight of linen - can't get enough of it! Lovely feel and drape, light and airy, but not transparent. Absolute pleasure to play with!

Shae profile image Perfect Weight For Tops

I had no pattern in mind when I purchased this linen. I washed and dried it twice, ironed edges with steam, then made a Tunic. It developed as I went, adding lace inserts and flared cuffs to sleeves. I will be buying more if this gorgeous linen!

A soft blue-green, so pretty! Just washing it now. I'm inspired to make my nicest nightgown yet of this beautiful fabric.

Penelope profile image Wonderful Everyday Linen

This is a wonderful everyday linen to wear throughout the summer if you like light, fluid garments. I like it for both unstructured pants (see photos) and shirts with classic shirtmaking details (see Silver Lilac for a photo and the Review for some sewing suggestions). The lightweight linen does not require lining for pants if the design is full and fluid. Everyday lightweight linen pants can be worn at home for working in your sewing studio or out-and-about for a casual meeting with friends. The colors are wonderful, and as with all fabric shopping online, if you are looking to match colors, order a sample, otherwise you will find the photos generally accurate with a few happy surprises. If you wear linen and prefer a more refined look as I do, make friends with your iron.

Museum exhibit background

I was helping to set up an exhibit of Pre-Columbian Peruvian pottery and textiles (1500-2000 years old). We wanted fabric to line the cases (and hide the various holders and stands). We wanted something with a)a bit of texture, b)soft, subtle variation of color (not a hard solid), c) good drape. Most of the display items have red or brownish red colors, so I knew I wanted an unsaturated blue/gray to set them off. I instantly knew I wanted linen, and "Meadow" was right color. Even the profession museum preparator who was helping us said "that fabric is perfect." It just gently melts into the background and really shows off these beautiful ancient pieces

Top made with the seafoam green color. Wonderfully comfortable in the summer!

Back of tunic using Tina Givens pattern.

Cynthia • September 13, 2022

Tina Givens pattern using Meadow and Sphinx along with some quilting cotton fabric to mix it up. I love how linens and cottons easily combine together making for endless design possibilities!

This was my first doggie bag purchase, and I'm very pleased. This lightweight softened linen is perfect for a breezy summer top like this McCall's 8116 (SierraMcCall's Misses' Tops), which is a faux wrap top with a narrow elastic casing hidden in the seam allowance in back. This color will look great with white pants.

A wonderful shade of blue linen fabric which is great for making kid's shirts and tops!

Napkins - perfect color and weight for a patio dinner! One yard of fabric made a set of six.

My boys all in Fabrics-Store linen for Easter! This Meadow color was not the mint shade that I expected from the thumbnail, more like a true light sky blue, so I switched what I planned to make with it. I made a German shirt pattern for my older two boys that turned out so cute. My first experience with linen from this shop and I love it. See more photos on my IG sara.borgeson.

I've made the striped linen shirt pattern in three different colors. Love all this linen, and the free patterns are just great. I hacked the pattern to make a loose fitting dress with a v neck front instead of one piece.

Sherry • March 31, 2021

This linen is so great to work with. I used it for two patterns from Tina Givens' collection—the Annabella and the Gypsy jacket. Can't wait to wear it in warmer temperatures.

Robyn • April 26, 2018

Bias cut tunic in IL020 MEADOW. Very basic, has only two seams, but since it's cut on a bias, it flows and drapes around the body.
