IL020 Handkerchief Cobalt Softened - 100% Linen Fabric - Light (3.7 oz/yd2), Width 58"
Dark, brooding and dramatic, the intense blue of COBALT linen was ideal for Renaissance painter Jacopo Vignali's heightened, operatic scenes.
A leading painter in the Florentine Seicento, Vignali's Baroque paintings were defined by flowing swathes of jewel-toned fabric in midnight blues and crimson reds; set amidst theatrical, directional light, these richly toned colors amplify the romantic agony and tragedy of his stories.
At a lighter weight of 3.5 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is woven with finer threads to give it a smoother appearance. Referred to as lightweight or handkerchief linen, this fine, but surprisingly sturdy linen brings new meaning to the term "sheer elegance".
The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

I just love this 3.7 oz lightweight linen. It is so comfortable to wear a in this triple digit heat. It is SO easy to Ware, like nothing on at all Cobalt is beautiful color. I made my dresses out of dark colors so no see through. I use the lighter colors for my lounge dresses. Even with price increases, this linen is cheaper than competitors & of the best quality
A great fabric and color, washes, sews like a dream.. Made a Tina Givens dress with this and it has such a wonderful drape and feel.
Classy colour. Perfect for hot Ozzie summer. Lovely weight in the heat
This is the first time I've bought the IL020 and I was pleasantly surprised! I usually buy IL019 at 5.3 oz or 4C22 at 7.1 oz - this stuff felt so nice and billowy right out of the dryer. I only made a scarf from it so no sewing, just washed and frayed but I'm sure it's a dream to sew. Color matches what's on my monitor.
I used this for a quilt backing paired with double gauze. So soft and lovely. Perfect for snuggling.
I chose the softened IL020 Handkerchief linen in Cobalt because I thought its lightness would lend itself well to the pattern. The body of the shirt is oversized and airy, and the handkerchief linen is just the right weight for that, plus I knew I'd want to tuck it in on occasions and didn't want too much bulk to deal with. The color feels moody and lush, a direct inspiration plucked from the cool and foggy walks I've taken each morning since moving to Oregon.
I cut an 82" x 15" piece of this linen and washed it to fray the edges, then brought it along with a bag of embroidery floss, a chalk pencil, needles and scissors on a month long trip to New Zealand as a free form slow stitching scarf project while traveling. I love how soft the linen feels after stitching it for a month to make a keepsake I'll wear for years to come.
Bought a bolt of the cobalt blue for bedroom drapery. Absolutely love how it drapes. It is such a beautiful piece in the room. I had to add drapery tape at the top to get it to sit just right and not sag (since the drape is 10' and it is a lot of weight to put on the top where it hangs). I bought 2+ bolts in white too for my living room and LOVE it.
