IL020 COBALT Softened - 100% Linen - Light (3.5 oz/yd2)
Dark, brooding and dramatic, the intense blue of COBALT linen was ideal for Renaissance painter Jacopo Vignali's heightened, operatic scenes.
A leading painter in the Florentine Seicento, Vignali's Baroque
paintings were defined by flowing swathes of jewel-toned fabric in
midnight blues and crimson reds; set amidst theatrical, directional
light, these richly toned colors amplify the romantic agony and tragedy
of his stories.
At a lighter weight of 3.5 ounces this 100% linen is woven with finer threads to give it a smoother appearance. Referred to as lightweight or handkerchief linen, this fine, but surprisingly sturdy linen brings new meaning to the term "sheer elegance".

A great fabric and color, washes, sews like a dream.. Made a Tina Givens dress with this and it has such a wonderful drape and feel.
Classy colour. Perfect for hot Ozzie summer. Lovely weight in the heat
This is the first time I've bought the IL020 and I was pleasantly surprised! I usually buy IL019 at 5.3 oz or 4C22 at 7.1 oz - this stuff felt so nice and billowy right out of the dryer. I only made a scarf from it so no sewing, just washed and frayed but I'm sure it's a dream to sew. Color matches what's on my monitor.
I used this for a quilt backing paired with double gauze. So soft and lovely. Perfect for snuggling.
The color is so rich, the fabric so soft! I sew by hand and this is a pleasure to use. It is lovely to wear as well, so light and airy, but still covers.
I made Grainline Pattern's "Gallery Tunic" and it went together so easily. The fabric is smooth & luxurious, a rich blue that I'm sure I'll use again.
This is beautiful fabric. I wish I'd read he reviews before ordering though as it is more of a denim color than the dark navy as it looks in the photo. I won't make this mistake again. The color is fine for what I have in mind though and the quality of the fabric is excellent.
I recently purchased Cobalt to make the new bias dress from the Merchant & Mills Workbook. The linen was a dream to sew. I will definitely be purchasing more linen from FS.
It is beautiful, soft, luxurious and a dream to sew. The color matches the color image. There was very little shrinkage. This fabric is everything you could hope for it to be!
This is a beautiful dark navy color. I wore it all summer, and am now returning to purchase some to create a ultra comfortable stylish and modest maternity dress. There is no maternity dress anywhere for sale that will match the beauty of a dress in this linen!

I agree with the other two reviews...this fabric is really beautiful. It's light-weight but not flimsy, see-through or easily wrinkled. I expect to make a beautiful summer dress out of it. The price, quality and speed of delivery was outstanding.
I was looking for a good Navy for my shawls and thought I would try the cobalt.. This fabric is more than meets the eye online.. in hand it is exquisite! The color is a dark indigo "navy" blue..
This is my second purchase of this linen. I make decorative tea towels and table toppers. (Actually, I made ONE and all my friends went goo-goo and placed orders.) The weight for both is excellent, and it takes the machine embroidery beautifully. Ironing the fabric is a cinch with a hot steam iron. Honestly, there is no comparison between cotton and linen tea towels...linen is luxurious, supple, and has a sheen that won't quit. I recommend it thoroughly. Thanks so much!!
I cut an 82" x 15" piece of this linen and washed it to fray the edges, then brought it along with a bag of embroidery floss, a chalk pencil, needles and scissors on a month long trip to New Zealand as a free form slow stitching scarf project while traveling. I love how soft the linen feels after stitching it for a month to make a keepsake I'll wear for years to come.
Bought a bolt of the cobalt blue for bedroom drapery. Absolutely love how it drapes. It is such a beautiful piece in the room. I had to add drapery tape at the top to get it to sit just right and not sag (since the drape is 10' and it is a lot of weight to put on the top where it hangs). I bought 2+ bolts in white too for my living room and LOVE it.
