Abstract Expressionist Joan Mitchell brought swirling tornadoes of color into her art, and BLUE APATITE was one of her favorites. She loved how this rich teal blue could energize her paintings with the color of electricity, twirling this way and that in dynamized ribbons, or pooling into watery patches of translucent color.
Though her densely patterned canvases came about through experiment and intuition, there was always a lingering trace of landscape at the back of her mind, and the rich, naturalistic blues of her paintings suggest oceanic waves, or the vibrancy of a summer garden in full bloom.

At a lighter weight of 3.5 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is woven with finer threads to give it a smoother appearance. Referred to as lightweight or handkerchief linen, this fine, but surprisingly sturdy linen brings new meaning to the term "sheer elegance".

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Exquisite Fabric!

I just received my order and am in love with this weight and color! In spite of being very thin, it isn't transparent at all. It's the perfect summer weight with beautiful body. The color is classic and will be perfect in either a blouse or a summer dress.

I've been ordering from Fabrics Store since 2017 and they never miss! The quality and the color range of their linens is incredible. This blue is sooo rich and pretty. Lagoon is definitely the right word for it. It has a little black in it that takes tone down to a really beautiful, dusty shade. The 3.7 oz weight is perfect for apparel— it has structure and a beautiful drape, but doesn't feel bulky. I use this lighter weight for projects with finer details or lots of pleating or gathering. I exclusively use the Fabrics Store linen for my Etsy because of their high standards and consistency. You can find my giant scrunchies on Etsy at firstcampaign.etsy.com!

I made Cris Wood's envelope dress and I love it!! The color is a wonderful teal blue, maybe peacock? And it's softer than any other linen (even though the others were the same weight and softened..) I've purchased!!

Who doesn't want to feel like they're at a resort this summer or any time? These garments will help transport you even if you've decided it's a "staycation" season for you! For the Riva Shirt I chose the lightweight Blue Apatite Softened Linen. I like to pay attention to what colors are best for my autumn skin tone and this one is on the list. The fact that it plays into my ocean blue resort dream certainly helps as well. I wanted something not green because I wear that so often, but not all the way to an exact teal either. This beautiful cool color achieved that goal.

Love this linen but am sorry I chose this pattern. New Look 6601 is better suited to cotton, I think. The rich color of this linen is beautiful and even though this is IL020--the lightweight--it is plenty opaque. I used Gütermann color 635 thread for a perfect match.
