Dazzling, brilliant blues like that of SAPPHIRE Linen define the paintings of Alexej von Jawlensky, streaking across his canvases with pulsing, living electricity. Modernist, Fauvist and Expressionist, Russian-born Jawlensky was a bold risk-taker, one whose wild, unbound art inspired a whole generation across Europe and beyond.

Known as much for his mystical landscapes as his expressive portraits, entrancing, glowing auras in pure, unmixed shades of this blue came to define his expressive paintings, jangling against iridescent reds, yellows, purples, and greens.

At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces, this 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

So excited for this color!

This hade of blue met beyond my expectations! Washed, and hung on clothes line to dry. Perfect. Gonna make a large table cloth and kitchen curtains to go with my yellow walls! Very soft.

Gorgeous color and good "hand"
Reviewer: Tina

I am a historical re-enactor. I made a completely hand sewn "hangeroc," an interpretation of Dark Age Norse costume. This fabric is easy to handle and sew.

I love how this fabric handles. I used mine to make a tunic with some black edging. It sewed up really easy and fast. I can't wait to make more!

The only color to ever disappoint
Reviewer: Jac

I was extremely disappointed in this color. After looking at the reviewer pictures I thought I had a good idea of what to expect, but the fabric I received is pale, not the saturated blue in the images. After washing the color faded even more, and left lighter color lines throughout where it had been folded to wash/dry. I am so frustrated with this color.

Hi! I am sorry to hear you didn't like the color - I am wondering if the warehouse shipped a lighter blue color by mistake. I am going to send you an email now so you can ship it back to me so I can see what happened there because this is a very saturated blue and shouldn't be "washed out" by any means. Please look for my email in your inbox Have an awesome evening!

I made a tunic from this fabric for my thirty year old which turned out beautifully. I love working with all the fine linens I've bought,

I order from fabrics-store fairly regularly. This is my favorite of their blues. It has the richness of a royal blue and is almost as bright as their ultramarine. I do a "dye set" with all of their linen, with 1 cup ech of white vinegar and salt to the wash water. I also wash and dry 3 times before using. But this linen is so worth the extra effort. It wears well and the color lasts.

This is my first time ordering from Very pleased with the quality of this linen. Looking forward to sewing with it - more home decor items - not clothing.

rich color
Reviewer: Barbara

My son picked sapphire for my second project. First instinct was bold, bright, unsure of this color but after pairing with natural, I was immediately telling him great choice. He loves it. Sharp crisp blue that feels warm. So happy he will remember I made this for him and will have it for a long time.

Linen napkins with machine embroidered sea star. Place mat is made with the 19" wide IL073 848 Mix Natural. Love the weight and feel of this linen!

Super love this color and hand. This is my constant pattern from Simple Modern Sewing, a booklet. Sewing it with this linen was fast, easy and fun. I used IL019 Sulphur as the interfacing and made a few scarves out of the yellow, 3 per width 1.5 yard long. Nice outfit.
