Natural is the earth made, not dyed, color of the flax plant once it is made into thread. No dyes, no bleach. The only thing that impacts the color of the cloth from one production to the next ( if it is more beige or grey) is the amount of sunshine and rain that particular flax harvest had.

At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

Hi, what weight fabric is recommended for making boxers? Thanks!

Rose • April 29, 2024
Lauren profile image F|S Team

Hello the IL019 medium weight fabric is ideal for boxers, but you will want to seek out the variants with the softened and FS signature finish as these are better for next to skin wearing.

I'm looking for a natural fabric possibly linen for sauna cushion covers. It is for a business and it needs to be washable. What would you recommend?

Robyn • March 20, 2024
Lauren profile image F|S Team

This is the fabric that we would recommend for cushion covers. This is the natural color of linen, so the color won't fade like a dye, and can be washed often.

Is this linen a good choice for dish towels or would you recommend another linen fabric?

Jeanie • December 1, 2023

We recommend our heavyweight 4C22 100% linen fabric, or its purpose made narrow width twin, IL084.

Darker than anticipated, but good for the price

I bought this bolt of linen to make some basic summer things for my children and myself on a budget. We live in a very hot, very humid climate and ticks (bearing diseases) are abundant, so long sleeves and breathable material are non-negotiable requirements to us. This weight of fabric was just a teensy bit heavier and darker than what i was anticipating, but it still works and we all love wearing the items we've made for the comfort and feel of linen. I had bought a whole bolt to try and save money, but I think in the future it will be worth our while to buy the colors everyone loves. Which is ok, since I happen to like wearing grey and I can use the rest of the bolt for my own clothes and get more colorful linen for my kids clothes in the future. Regardless, I'll be ordering it from this site.

The best base for all of my sewn garments.

This linen is my starting point for all of my sewing of reenactment clothing. I send everyone I know to this site for this staple fabric. It takes dye well, but also is lovely just as it is. This natural linen is the core, and I'm sad to see it's currently sold out.

This weight of Natural Linen works great as a period lining for Eighteenth Century clothing. It's very easy to work with and I would not hesitate to order it in large, working, quantities.

BringYourOwnFluff profile image Just a Pinch Lighter than the Image

Lovely medium-weight linen for tops and bottoms! I do find the color to be a bit lighter than what's shown on my screen. This linen, like all that I order from here is a nice quality, with a few slubs/loose threads here or there that I pull to the wrong side of the fabric with a small crochet hook. Not a big deal! Like all linens, this fabric gets much, much softer with machine washing and drying.

An embroidered under-dress/nightgown, which is just one of the projects I have completed so far with this comfortable linen :)

True Bias Dani Shorts medium-weight 'Natural' linen. In the photo, the waistband & back shorts are done in the unsoftened linen, and the front legs (shown) of the shorts are done in the softened version (this happened due to Doggie Bag purchases). The color difference is very, very slight, not noticeable at all if you make a few careful decisions about placement.

Helen's Closet Ashton Top in fabrics-store medium-weight linen in 'Natural'. True Bias Dani Shorts in the same fabric for a matching set! I suspect these are actually the 'softened' version of the 'Natural' although, the color is very close (difference likely due to dye/mix lots!). I put these on just for the photo, so all the wrinkles are what you get from walking around the house for a bit!

Helen's Closet Ashton Top Colorblock Hack from the blog in scraps of medium-weight fabrics-store linen. 'Natural' is the right shoulder, 'Lagoon' is the other shoulder. 'Folkstone Gray' is the bottom triangle, and 'Natural Mix' is the bottom square. You can see that the Natural Mix is nearly white, and just a few shades lighter than 'Natural'.

I make wine bags for a local winery. Most have been with quilting fabric but this time I tried my hand at free motion quilting on ILO19 natural, coloring in with Inktense. It sold right away!
