IL019 MONUMENT Softened - 100% Linen - Middle (5.3 oz/yd2)
The cold, silvery hue of MONUMENT Linen flooded across French Impressionist Gustave Caillebotte's Parisian scenes, capturing the shimmering, majestic grandeur of the newly built city.
Fascinated by photography, Caillebotte invested the same dazzling
qualities of light into his canvases, letting surfaces glisten and
reflect with a mirror-like sheen. Refined, sophisticated grey and silver
tones were his preferred palette, reflecting the glossy stone, polished
surfaces and heavy metals of the refurbished Parisian cityscape that
was rising all around him.
At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces, this 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.
The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

I decided to make an Assembly Line caftan out of this linen. It feels a little heavier than the other medium weight linens I have purchased but I really love it. I do feel kind of like Gandalf the grey in this and am considering making a wizard hat to go with it. I can not figure out how to add a photo to any of my reviews.
Add my name to all the fans. Wonderful to work with and feels so good on. Plus the speed with which you filled my order was amazing so I am a fan of F/S as well. Cannot wait to think up a new project
I have to say that I am obsessed with linen right now. It's a good thing that fabric-store.com exists! Monument is a gorgeous color. It does have a blue undertone. What I would call Confederate blue. I made a set of sheets for someone else out of it, and almost kept them for myself! I guess I'm just going to have to wait for the next sale, and make that happen.
I just wanted to tell Rosemarie how cute those pillows are that she did the machine applique and embroidery on.....adorable!! I want to do something like this when I can find the time...thank you for sharing!
This is a lovely fabric. Just right for summer pants. Washed up beautifully and didn't unravel too much. The color was a bit of a surprise. I would call it a silver gray. Definitely a cool color that would be complemented with silver jewelry, not gold. I'd maybe even go so far as to say it looks like some denim jeans I have, so in that respect it could be called a neutral. But it's not a neutral gray by any stretch.

This fabric is beautiful! The color does have a blue tint to the gray, which is perfect for my baby boy's new room. It is very slight. I plan to put his restoration hardware tent right by these curtains and grays are very close. It is easy to work with and soft. Great linen for a great price!
I agree with one of the other reviewers. This fabric is not gray, but a odd shade of blue. Will be returning it. However, the texture of the linen is wonderful and the weight just right for curtains.
Let me start by saying I am no sewer.:) but I kept reading how awesome linen sheets were, and my wallet can't afford to pay $150 for a sheet. That's when I decided to take my mom's sewing machine and make them myself. Somehow I found the fabrics-store website and by reading, I figured the 5.3weight would ho just fine for bed sheets. from all the colors, this was the most interesting! I waited almost a month for it to go on sale and bought 10yd. I was nervous and excited in the same time. Once I opened fhe package, I fell in love with it. I prewashed it(as I read in the comments) and it took me 3 nights to finish a sheet with 2 pillow cases(told you I'm a beginner). Despite my lack of experience, it was a breeze to work with this fabric. It's practically sewing itself. Today I am washing them today the 1st time, and I am so curious how they will come out. I have some fabric left and my hands are itching to make a simple tank top. Until then, I will attach a picture of the sheet and pillow cases on our bed.
I love this linen, I am so happy I found your site. I have purchased several colors and am never disappointed
Wonderful color...undertones of green and blue. I made two tunic tops with it and they are wonderfully light but little see through. Considering pillowcases.
I LOVE this fabric. I am currently working with it to make a dress and I keep stopping and staring at the fabric. The color is a beautiful rich grey and the feel of the fabric is soft but not wimpy. For anyone wondering about the weight of the fabric, it is a medium weight. It is neither heavy nor see-through. It's perfect for the dress I am making, but you could also make anything out of it- pants, jacket, tunic, etc. I will definitely be making more garments out of this fabric.
This is an outstanding 'gray': it has terrific depth of color & is a marvelously unexpected neutral that matches all sorts of other, unexpected colors. I really can't say enough about the value of this color dye: it works as an historical color, as a very modern color, as a trim & as a base color trimmed with other pieces. The sample photos posted are particularly impressive with the variation they illustrate for this colorway: a modern apron, modern/historic pants, a classic ladies dress - now that is versatility! I like this for soft trousers as a break from black or navy & also for very stylish, modern-looking kitchen linens (bread bags, aprons, towels & napkins). I hope Fabrics-Store makes 'Monument' FOREVER!
I'm in love with this linen. I've been intimidated to sew linen because I have an old Japanese sewing machine that has no features, other than foreword and backwards. So I read some tutorials on Fabric-store and jumped in! I made a tunic from Simple Modern Knitting from this beautiful fabric, my new favorite : )
Monument is the perfect title for this color linen. It's not a drab gray, but rather a color with depth and clarity. I have made tea towels from it and it is very absorbent, dries quickly and is ready for reuse. I am falling more and more in love with linen.
I am making a pair of 1860's gentleman's trousers with this linen. The hand of this softened linen is lovely. It sews very well. Even having to pick out my mistakes is not too bad on this fabric. When needed, it irons to a crisp line. This is not the first item I have sewn using this weight linen. I go back to it again and again.
Love this fabric but it is definitely a blue-grey and the colour in the photo shows the exact colour once washed. This fabric is fabulous to work with and as it was my first project, I should have heeded the warnings that it would become addictive. My intent is to have my entire wardrobe in linen - I can't get enough. I've got some other projects on the go and will post when done. I "thank you" for feeding my addiction - it's keeping me out of trouble!, although my husband probably wouldn't thank you as much because I just keep buying more! Planning some home decor projects with the jacquards over the fall and winter!
Absolutely lovely lightweight linen. This tunic is my very first creation out of Fabrics-Store.com linen, and I love it! It looks great with jeans, and color is very versatile - fits many of my outfits. You got me as a customer :) I hope to make some nice linen pieces for my knitsha.etsy.com store :)
Most of my clothing line is done using Fabrics-Store Linens. The linens are exceptional and a delight to work with. Here is an example of an order of my S.O.C pants for a boutique in Australia.
