The dusty, muted warmth of MONTANA GRAPE Linen was the ideal backdrop for Paul Gauguin's rustic scenes, conveying sun-soaked tracks of earth, dry flowers, or the shadowy layered depths of human skin.

A leader in the French Post-Impressionist oeuvre, Gauguin heightened colors so he could transcend reality, combining this dreamy shade of purple with feverish jungle greens that together transport us into a magical, otherworldly place.

He observed with fascination, "Colour! What a deep and mysterious language, the language of dreams."

At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 59 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Love this colour.

I love this colour, it's not primary, not harsh nor shallow, it's soft deep and subtle and I love it with sanguine.

What a beautiful color

I just received this fabric. I missed the super sale on it a week ago because I was traveling but bought it anyway at full price because the color looked so beautiful and I was afraid it would "go away" and not be available (I hadn't seen it before). There have been lots of comments about what the real color is so here's my 2 cents' worth. It looks exactly like what it appeared to be on the sale email. It is not bluish nor light as in some posted photos, nor is it "just gray." It is a soft grape color that one might describe as faded grape. Some have said it looks gray predominantly; I don't agree that it has a gray tone but it is a tone that is achieved using black to change the pure color instead of white - it is a "dark" rather than "light" in quilters' lingo. It is a very soft color, not bold nor bright. I am not sure what I will make - a long jumper or a jacket of some sort perhaps. I bought three yards to have some options.

Delicious color

This color is one of the most beautiful shade of an almost smokey plum. Perfect, natural, earthy. I don't know what I will make with it yet, perhaps an apron to start. I do hope the come out with the heavier weight.

Dissatisfied

Color of actual fabric received does not come close to the color as shown in the advertisement. Very disappointed.

I so love IL019 Montana Grape - the color is dusky and a bit mysterious. And it works beautifully for my variation on the Megan Nielsen Brumby Skirt. The fabric falls perfectly from the gathers and large pockets, and the topstitching is a perfect accent. My favorite skirt! Lots of sewing notes and pics on my blog post, Coco's Loft.

I read at others comment and see that some persons mention the color. As what I have experience with colors sample and real ones, very often, the colors seems to be lighter in photo than in real. Anyway, the tone is the same, but the brightness often differs. Just love this Montana Grape tone!

I have drawn this blouse from a Simplicity dress pattern of 1990. I think this color is just beautiful, a kind of neutral one which goes with everything! Love it!!

I am so in love with this mysterious color. I'm calling it raisin mud patina because naming colors is fun. I already had a tunic in this middle weight linen, but when I discovered the Demeter Dress pattern from Anna Allen, I knew I needed one in this earthy, greyed-down, barely purple purple. My artist mom talked me into leaving the hemline long, so this dress will be versatile. I can dress it up with nicer sandals, a statement necklace or shawl or just bum around the beach or farmer's market in it.
