IL019 MONTANA GRAPE Softened - 100% Linen - Middle (5.3 oz/yd2)
The dusty, muted warmth of MONTANA GRAPE Linen was the ideal backdrop for Paul Gauguin's rustic scenes, conveying sun-soaked tracks of earth, dry flowers, or the shadowy layered depths of human skin.
A leader in the French Post-Impressionist oeuvre, Gauguin heightened colors so he could transcend reality, combining this dreamy shade of purple with feverish jungle greens that together transport us into a magical, otherworldly place.
He observed with fascination, "Colour! What a deep and mysterious language, the language of dreams."
At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces, this 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

I am looking forward to making a parti-colored, early period SCA under- tunic with some Strong Blue and some trim of Monument Gray. I can't wait to sew it up! It already washed up beautifully.
It's hard to accurately portray the color in a pic. It is truly the color of a "red" grape in the market, when it still has that dusty coating. Like a faded plum. Though technically purple, this would be a great addition to a natural-toned wardrobe
I was hesitant to order this fabric because of the one negative review concerning poor quality. But, feeling adventurous, I ordered several yards. I inspected it as soon as I received the package and it was all good. I don't usually wear purple, but I love this color. It's about as close to neutral as purple can get, like watercolor shadows. I made a skirt and am trying to decide what else to make. Janet
The fabric was super fun to sew in to a caftan and a jacket. Still a bit left to make something else. But the color...it's obsession-worthy. Dreamy mauve!
I loved this color. I'm hoping it comes back!
IL019 Montana Grape Softened is a sophisticated purple that goes well with black or grey or brown. I really love this color!
For those doing SCA or medieval re-enactment, there are onliine pictures of the purples one can get by dyeing with lichens, so this is a possible color (In Europe more in wool than linen, but for the US, we have to use the cooler fabric.) Also online, there are lovely soft blue-greens, like this year's -2019- Lagoon, Reed, and Agave, as mushroom dye colors on wool from Scandinavia.
I love this linen! I've searched for the perfect linen for awhile and have always struggled with finding a soft linen. This linen was super soft and a nice medium weight. I used it to make a pair of high waisted, wide leg linen pants and they turned out great! Will definitely only ever purchase this linen in the future!
Color is more brown than purple/grape color.
I am a historical re-enactor, and this was the perfect shade of purple to match my plaid skirts. I make all of my costuming garments as historically accurate as possible. I was hoping to make a fitted bedcoat for a Revolutionary War Re-enactment, but the color is out of stock.
I was just ready to buy about 10 yards of this beautiful color for several projects. I would call it a dusty plum - it is a greyed red-violet, and as the other reviewer said, it will go with browns, and also peach. Also, any other greyed colors like Blue Bayou, which it contrasts well with, and some of the warm greys, like graphite.
The color is beautiful, but the linen itself has a slick feel, as though viscose or some other thread has been used with the linen. The price was nice, but for a bit more, I could have bought higher quality linen elsewhere. I will not order again.
This linen came in true to color, it washed up nicely, and felt wonderful. I made an SCA fencing cotehardie from it and I love the color enough I wish I'd bought more to make a matching dress. I only gave it 4 starts because there were some inconsistencies with the yardage I received. In a few spots I found white-ish and teal-ish threads that looked like they hadn't been dyed quite right. But they weren't obvious and I easily worked around them. I hope when I place another order for this beautiful fabric, they'll have solved that minor variance.
The color is perfect. Exactly as my screen showed. A beautiful muted purple, will play well with tans, browns, and greys, or practically any other color. I cant wait to use it, i just need to decide what I'll make. I'm sure I'll be ordering more of this one!
The most gorgeous color!!! Can't wait to make a top with it. Also using some to make accent pieces for my granddaughter's room!
I'm extremely passionate about all things ‘fiber'. I love to utilize natural and second-hand fabrics in my sewing when possible and I also sell second-hand fabric through Instagram (shopwellfibre). I'm SO happy to have a great pair of quality practical shorts to mix in my summer wardrobe! These shorts are ‘Pomona Shorts' pattern by Anna Allen Clothing. I need something non-restrictive and breezy (chasing kids is sweaty work, let me tell ya). As much as I love jean shorts, they aren't the best fit.
