IL019 All-purpose Medieval Blue Softened - 100% Linen - Medium (5.3 oz/yd2)
Drama is at the heart of Pierre Soulages’ art, and he achieves it through stark, theatrical means. A leader in 20th century European Abstract Expressionism, Soulages pioneered a bold, striking language, combining dark, enigmatic shades of indigo like MEDIEVAL BLUE with jet black, ultramarine and cerulean.
He swept them in grand gestures across his artworks with a seemingly effortless confidence, building thick, juicy brushstrokes up in layer upon layer like sculptural constructs or stage sets. Around them, tiny slivers of white ground become breathing pockets of air and space, just enough to allow us to get lost in his imaginary realms.
At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 59 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.
The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Am I imagining things? Did you not have a medium-weight blue linen on sale a few days ago that was a little less purple than this, in a cold called Japanese blue. I had put it in my cart, but when I went back a couple of days later, i5 was nowhere to be found. It was such a beautiful color. What happened? Will you have it again?
Our Japanese Blue was available in our Signature finish group but is sold out at this time. We hope to have this back in but we do not have an ETA just yet. Please check back with us in a month or so to see if we have had any updates to our schedule.
Can I make the Diane dress with this linen?
Yes the middle weight IL019 linen will work for this pattern
Is there a reason this color isn't available as a sample? I'm hoping to compare several shades to see which is the best fit for my project.
In this case we have inventory but we have not received the pre-made sample chip. Please contact our customer service department who can arrange to have a sample of this color sent to you. Please email askfabrics-store.com
Love this color! Easy to work with and hope more becomes available.
It is so difficult to get just the right balance when dying fabric blue, I had to order samples and choose one. The fabric washed beautifully and is in the queue for cutting. It will be a basic shell with white trim, shorts, and maybe something small from the scraps. How sweet to be able to combine dark blue with white!!
I have several projects planned for this elegant dark blue linen: My basic bias cut shell, with white trim is #1. I have needed this to wear with my silk crepe tunic. I also plan to make shorts for my husband - following a pattern made off his favorite pair. I think he will love the comfort of linen as much as I do.
Wonderful color and just gorgeous fabric.
I just bought a small piece of this so I could see the color and use it for something fun if the color was darker than expected. It arrived yesterday and I am blown away by how pretty this blue is! It is a bit more royal than it appears on my monitor, and will make a stunning piece of clothing! I will definitely be getting more!
