Wassily Kandinsky lived and breathed color, letting it infiltrate his entire life. His impassioned, ferocious paintings are a testament to this, with their noisy, clanging clashes of dazzling brilliance that exude a spirit of endless optimism and hope. He was a great leader in the 20th century European avant-garde, taking art into the great and unchartered territory of abstraction.

The smoky, soft pink of LILAS appeared often in Kandinsky’s art, a dreamy, mysterious shade lifted from his imagination that he brought into sun-soaked bodies, sketchy mountaintops and even the ambiguous haze of abstract space.

At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

lilac med linen and pattern

Fabric is beautiful. I have no idea how it responds to sewing, because I ordered a pattern, the same day, and never received it. Where is the pattern my VISA paid for? I specifically ordered a paper pattern to be mailed in a tube.

i love this color so much! It's the most beautiful dusty lilac color. I'd like to be swaddled in it forever.

Ok has to be a favorite color

The color reminds me of the Barbara Streisand Rose. Absolutely gorgeous. If my skin tones could take it, I would have a shirt made out of this. But, I am putting together a simple patch quilt made out of linen. Excited

Beautiful

This is definitely not mauve and barely pink-toned, but it is a very pretty purple.

Gorgeous Mauve

Gorgeous color, I like to wear a similar shade in lipsticks! I made a skirt but I'm thinking of ordering more to make a throw blanket to go with my light grey bed linen.

Rich warm lilac

The photos don't do this color justice. It's earthy and lush, without the coolness of a lot of lilac shades. Another that I ordered more of as soon as I received my first order.

This color reminds me of French Lilacs

A pink toned Lavender to my eye. Thinking it could make some beautiful accents, color blocking, or in larger Doggie Bag but under a yard, gorgeous bias that could be applied to make Celtic designs for a pillow. I haven't pulled out my Montana Grape piece yet, which I suspect it would be spectacular against. J

A really gorgeous color! I like that it is grayed down a little. I'd call it a muted lilac with a hint of pink in it. Really lovely.

lovely mauve

Lilas is a lovely mauve color. It's on the bluer/grayer end of pink and goes beautifully with IL019 wildcherry. It's also good with beet, but not as well matched with dulse. When held next to lilas, I can see why Fabrics-store lists shadow grey (taupe) as a brown.

I tackled the Amalfi pattern with no particular plan other than to use a lot of colors. I used 1 yard increments of several colored linens, All-purpose Mix Natural, Autumn Gold, Agave, Wisteria, Sanguine, Lilas – all IL019, and that determined how far down my color piecing work began as I cut the main body pattern pieces from the off-white linen and then worked with the other colors to fill in the gaps.

Baby coverall with Doggie Bag remnants; IL019 Lilas, Iris, Blush and IC64 French Lilac with bias trim from quilter cotton off cuts

Used the Ladies Dress pack pattern from modestsewingpatterns.com by the Kings Daughters, in IL019 Lilas. I waited a long time to finally splurge on linen after reading about all its benefits for years, and finding enough in a doggie bag. Can't wait to wear it in the summer heat and see if it's worth all the hype in that area! I already love the color, drape, softness, and how easy it was to sew.

Lovely mauve color. Made Twig and Tales Petal Wrap dress. Its reversible! Might make the boxy top w remaining fabric.

lindsay • July 13, 2022

After printing out the Agustina Boxy Top pattern, I was delighted to find that it requires so little fabric that I was able to squeeze one out from the Lilas that I had left over after making a knee-length dress. This color is like dusty rose and looks great with silvery grey denim.

Oh, this color! I knew when it came out I had to have it. With my complexion, I look good in the purples family of colors and pink, but it needs to be a cool, mauve-ish pink, which this is. Here I have hacked the Hinterland dress from Sew Liberated in an attempt to replicate a dress I saw on Pinterest. Success!

I would describe this color as a dusty lilac. Very pretty! I made a Willow baby pinafore by Sunflower Seams Co.

Lydia • February 19, 2022

I love it! I made a long gathered skirt and I adore it. It's a purply-pink, a lovely mauve. It's a tad lighter IRL than in my picture or the listing picture.
