IL019 All-purpose Excalibur Softened - 100% Linen Fabric - Medium (5.3 oz/yd2), Width 58"
EXCALIBUR Linen's silent grey hangs in the very air of Gwen John's paintings, hovering
around her lonely interiors like a dark, muffling mist. Best known for
her portraits of pensive women in close tones of grey, brown and beige,
John masterfully grasped the power of understatement, capturing private
moments of reflection in these sitters that are laced with undercurrents
of anticipation.
At a medium weight of 5.3 ounces this 58 inch wide 100% linen is versatile enough to be referred to as an All Purpose or Do it All linen. With its smooth look and tighter weave, this linen is neither sheer or heavy, but just the right in-between weight you will need for a variety of projects.
The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Beautiful fabric and color is exquisite
This is such a beautiful color and then to work with it is a charm. The texture and feel is exactly what I want to make pajamas. So soft and the drape is perfect. I'm so in love with your linen it's the first email I open each morning to see what's featured on sale that day. I will continue to be a customer.
This is the most wonderful fabric to work with, very little shrinkage, smooth, the perfect all purpose linen, like a dream to work with, and never disappointed in the quality of my labor(s) of love. The color is not a true grey which reflects my 4 stars. After washing and light drying, the blue in this color became very prominent. I still used it for my project, and was quite happy with it, not withstanding the blue tone of this linen, the quality and amazing feel of this linen made it beautiful. I love F/S linen, the price, great quality, and fast shipping.
I bought 17 yards to make a set of queen sheets as well as 4 or more pillowcases. My husband was a bit uncertain about linen sheets, but after I finally got around to making them (using the pattern found on the fabrics-store website) he had me buy more linen for a couple more sets. The best part is that the top sheet is large enough to have an 18 inch drop on each side so we're both covered all night! It's cold here now & the sheets keep us warmer than the old flannel sheets ever did. I use a pillowcase pattern that I have used with my cotton fabrics. Since I had purchased a second color that coordinated, I used that color for the flange between the body & the cuff of the pillowcase. I think it's called the burrito method of sewing the case & I like that all seams are enclosed while sewing the 3 pieces together, then I use a french seam along the side & bottom so those seams are also enclosed. I have ordered from fabrics-store for over 13 years now & so far everything has been garments until these sheets. I'll never go back to cotton sheets again.
This beautiful fabric has soft purple undertones, giving a lovely new look to the grey colourway. Unlike a blue based grey, the purple hues create a warmer tone. It's the first time I've run across this shade, and it is truly stunning! It's definitely not an "in your face" obvious purple, but rather the purple is a subtle undertone. I think I may need more!
My mission? To make a custom tablecloth for my grandma's mid-century modern kitchen table that now sits in my apartment. Being selective about what I choose to bring into my four walls has helped narrow my style, focusing on the colors, textures, and materials I truly love. Neutral linen has emerged as a favorite.
