The rich, vivid hue of ULTRAMARINE Linen came to define French painter Raoul Dufy's art, filling coastal scenes across the Riviera with the entrancing, deepening shadows of night.
Known today as one of art history's greatest colorists Dufy embraced a joyous, technicolor approach to art, coloring paintings, prints, ceramics and textiles with tones as fresh and sparkling as champagne.

But blue was the one he revered the most, partly because it defined the marine light of France that he so loved. But he also observed blue's inherent purity, noting, "Blue is the only colour which maintains its own character in all its tones…it will always stay blue…whereas yellow is blackened in its shades, and fades away when lightened; red when darkened becomes brown, and diluted with white is no longer red, but another colour—pink."

At a heavier weight of 7.1 ounces this 100% linen is referred to as Rustic due to its more textured look and feel. Durable and perfect for projects that require just a bit more substance.

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Beautiful fabric

I used this to make a 16th century kirtle, and it was great to work with! It didn't fray too much, even when I was working on the paned sleeves, which have tiny seam allowances. The color is beautiful, perfect for medieval and Renaissance costuming, and the heavy weight makes it drape really nicely!

As a medieval reenactor, I find it increasingly difficult to source materials for costuming (garb). This medium to heavyweight linen was a joy to work with. Very little shrinkage, excellent weave, and a soft hand make for a fabric that is easy to use, looks nice, and wears very well. Thank you!

Perfect to work with!

What a wonderful fabric! It was a dream to work with. The colour in person is deeper and richer, more like the picture of Ultramarine IL019, which was just what I was looking for. It did not fade or shrink after washing and drying in the sun either. The weight was just perfect for making a supportive bodice, though it was a little heavy to cartridge pleat--my thread broke a few times pulling it all together. It was worth it, though; the weight has a beautiful shape and looks wonderfully elegant. Just make sure to use strong thread!

I can hardly begin to express the awesomeness of this fabric. Just looking at it gives you a sense of peace and contentment. When it arrives the color is even more vibrant than the picture can begin to show. I love it, love it, love it. How happy I am to have found this linen site and this linen fabric....!

This color was perfect for my new coat and happened to have some fabric for a pretty scarf. I absolutely love this weight of linen. It hangs so beautifully. You are right, this linen is so addictive! I don't want to see with anything else!!!

Nice Knight! I love working with this linen. The embroidery added had a large stitch count (~29,000) . It was added with no problems!
