The cold, silvery hue of MONUMENT Linen flooded across French Impressionist Gustave Caillebotte's Parisian scenes, capturing the shimmering, majestic grandeur of the newly built city.

Fascinated by photography, Caillebotte invested the same dazzling qualities of light into his canvases, letting surfaces glisten and reflect with a mirror-like sheen. Refined, sophisticated grey and silver tones were his preferred palette, reflecting the glossy stone, polished surfaces and heavy metals of the refurbished Parisian cityscape that was rising all around him.

At a heavier weight of 7.1 ounces this 100% linen is referred to as Rustic due to its more textured look and feel. Durable and perfect for projects that require just a bit more substance.

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

So happy I found your website for quality linen at reasonable prices! I've ordered different gray tones in softened mid-weight (IL019) such as graphite and asphalt but needed something with more light-reflecting properties to brighten my family room full of earth tone stuff (leather couch, wood coffee table, etc.) Monument Softened Heavyweight (4C22) was just the ticket for my decorator pillows and pouf ottomans! Light and bright but still a true gray without morphing into silvery hues.

I was a quilter using cotton and pillow maker with home decor fabric. This Linen is like nothing I've ever used. I will never go back to cotton. I made a table cloth from this for a gift and I am so proud of how it turned out. I can't stop touching the Linen, it is smooth and almost silky the way it hangs. It is amazing fabric.

I agree with Cindy. It's not the same...

I've ordered Monument in 4C22 dozens of times. The last two orders have been disappointing. The linen is not the same weave, and has a course texture. My recent order contained several other colors of 4C22 and they were beautiful and soft. I don't understand why it's just this color?

Disappointed -Not what is used to be
Reviewer: Cindy

I am a regular customer and have been ordering this color in the 4c22 for a few years and recently the quality and the colored changed. Now the weave is now much looser and very rustic feeling. To top it off, the cast is so much greener than before. I hope they go back to the beautiful rich color and quality and hope this did not change for all of the 4c22 colors...

4C22 in monument

Lovely neutral mid gray! It has a lovely weight and texture to it. I'm planning a simple dress, but may very well change my mind.(who doesn't!?) I do give it 5 stars but with the following reservation: When you wash it, it leaves a lot of fibres in your machine (I just wiped the drum and put the washer through a rinse cycle) Afterwards in the dryer...lots of lint...so check the lint trap a couple of times. Apart from this technical glitch, 4C22 is a beautiful fabric.

You would think gray to be drab, but wrapped around my shoulders made me realize how beautiful it made me look. I made a towel and will keep this color in mind for clothing options for sure. The feel is sturdy and light to the touch.

Nice heavy linen

I used this linen to make a toddler-weight ring sling. It's a great price for fabulous linen which has more support for a toddler than the 5.3oz linen. And the best part is that one cut makes two 27" width slings. I have made many slings with fabrics-store linen in various weights and I will keep coming back!

I purchased this fabric to have a chair recovered. I don't have the completed project back yet, but this is the perfect weight for this project. I think it will look fab.

Made my Towel Set using Aurifil 50/2 Grey 5004 Cotton Thread. Blended right into the linen beautifully. Love using them & in time they will soften & be better.

1C64 Silver Moon next to 4C22 Monument - both are exceedingly green grays. If that's what you're looking for, they pair quite well together. If not, I suggest ordering swatches for the grays.

I have been using your heavy weight and canvas weight for the hats I make for awhile now, and just love them both. So, thought I would show an example . Just love the quality, and price, of your linen. Julienne

"Drag-in-the-Dirt Quilt. I keep coming back to Monument (Center Stripe) for different projects. It's the perfect gray to make other colors pop.

Made this draw string pouch for a birthday gift. The material withstood the embroidery machine beautifully and looks oh so elegant and classy! Love this fabric. This pouch was made with the left over scraps. The main is a blouse! Will post once it gets finished!
