4C22 Rustic Earth Softened - 100% Linen Fabric - Heavy (7.1 oz/yd2), Width 57"
With the weighty indulgence of port wine, EARTH linen's warm, rich darkness swept across Italian Baroque painter Caravaggio's canvases, lending them an entrancing, dark opulence. Set against dark shadows and pale flesh, Caravaggio explored how this colour could bring heady notes of sinful decadence into his paintings, heightening their passionate tension and trembling tenebrism, inducing the awe-inspiring spectacle of the sublime.
At a heavier weight of 7.1 ounces this 100% linen is referred to as Rustic due to its more textured look and feel. Durable and perfect for projects that require just a bit more substance.
The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

would this be a good weight for dinner napkins?
Yes this linen would be good for napkins very absorbent.
I love the color! Would this be appropriate for upholstery on a footstool?
Yes it would be.
This color is gorgeous. Would you consider adding it to your medium, softened, all-purpose line?
Thank you for letting us know what you would like to see us add to our middleweight color line and will add it in for consideration.
This is my first heavy weight purchase which I plan to use for a simple unlined shirt jacket for fall. The color is deep and rich like a glass of Cabernet and will look good with all the darker colors as well as jeans! I can't wait to cut out and sew and enjoy it in the cooler weather.
I'm very happy with this fabric -- if all goes as planned it will be a tablecloth for fall. I wish the color was also available in the midweight range.
I love ‘off' colors, not the primary colors. This red is complex, with mahogany tones, and it lends itself to many different projects. I am trying to decide between pants and a skirt. I know it will be wonderful, whichever way I go.
Used this fabric to make the Paola jacket. Love this color & found the pattern easy to make. So happy with this project.
Just received my Earth linen and I LOVE the color. I will be making an 18th century chemise with it, as I wear clothing from that era. Even in my daily modern life I wear 18th century clothing. I can not tell you enough how glad I am that I found your website, and how much I love all the linen I have ordered. LOVE LOVE LOVE Tsutee
My daughter is an artist and for her birthday I made her the Studio Tunic by Sewliberated (sewliberated.com/products/studio-tunic-pattern). It's a wonderful pattern. I purchased the 4C22 Rustic Earth Softened linen and it is perfect. The color is gorgeous, the fabric became so soft after washing, and I love the rustic linen look. I highly recommend this linen. It's absolutely beautiful.
So rich and deep and beautiful earthy color!!! I simply adore it!!! I have drawn this beautiful cross-back apron and use this color to sew it. Really, I was a little anxious to sew it using French seam, then top stitched it as jeans, then folding the fabric twice to finish all the edges, but it works great!!! The linen has body, but remains easy to sew. I still use my 11 needle, the 14 or 16 are just too big to pierce the fabric easily and does not help at all in the end. I have presented this new apron with a great cut on my website, lelinquotidien.com (I'm a French person from Quebec, Canada).
