4C22 EARTH Softened - 100% Linen - Heavy (7.1 oz/yd2)
With the weighty indulgence of port wine, EARTH linen's warm, rich darkness swept across Italian Baroque painter Caravaggio's canvases, lending them an entrancing, dark opulence. Set against dark shadows and pale flesh, Caravaggio explored how this colour could bring heady notes of sinful decadence into his paintings, heightening their passionate tension and trembling tenebrism, inducing the awe-inspiring spectacle of the sublime.
At a heavier weight of 7.1 ounces this 100% linen is referred to as Rustic due to its more textured look and feel. Durable and perfect for projects that require just a bit more substance.

I love this fabric & color. I haven't used it yet, but plan to make up a the Paola Jacket.
The best way to describe Earth is comparing it to wood stains. Is it Cherry, Chestnut, Mahogany, or Walnut? It's a nuanced color that can work well with cool tones such as Shadow Grey as well as warm tones. I agree that it would be great if Earth came in the lL019 weight. The heavier weight was used for the October Peppermint Magazine free pattern offer from Paper Theory, the Pocket Skirt.
This is a wonderful color! Perfect balance between brown, red and purple. It is rich and sophisticated. FS, please make this same color available in the ILO19 middle weight linen! Tawny port and wild cherry are too red/purple for me but this earth color is just right.
4C22 - and even IL019 - is perfect for one cover sleeping, even in a full-on 4 season environment where the summers are steamy hot and the winters subzero cold! It keeps you cool in summer and warm in winter, even with no other blankets! Just buy some "softened", whack off a couple of yards and go to bed! Get lots of colors of doggie bag pieces, slap together some pillow cases, a couple of big squishy throw pillows, sew some patchwork to the visible bits of your mattress and box spring, a 2 or 2 -1/2 yard piece on top of an old fitted sheet and you have your own little corner of linen heaven, right there in your bed! Add a loosely stuffed pillow and you can pinch it in the middle, lift it up and shake the stuffing out of the middle to the sides to make a little puddle to keep your phone, tissues, glasses and book from falling off the bed - assuming the cats and dogs don't commandeer it for their own little piece of linen heave-in-a-bed - which they absolutely will - which means you should probably make more than one....or a double puddle - one for the dog and one for your book/kindle, glasses and phone....I guess...
The color is called Earth and made me wonder if it was more like brown dirt tones but it is more like a wine color and truly beautiful. I didn't use a filter on the photo, you can see more photos ma.ma.osa if you need to see more since it is difficult to capture the true tone. I highly recommend this color and texture.
I bought 3 yards on sale of Earth color heavy weight. I made a lovely skirt from a new look pattern. It was a dream to sew with. It drapes beautifully, wears wonderfully, and I had 41" leftover to use for something else.
I used this for lining tote bags...this is gorgeous and sturdy!! Love using it! Rich! Will be sure to get more and in other colors.
It's not brown, it's not red, it's not purple - it's the best of all three. Rich and elegant enough for dress pants (which I made) but would be great for jeans or a casual jacket. An excellent bottom color for all the warm-toned mid-weights.
I used the 7.1 oz Earth Linen to make the Paola Workwear Jacket. The color shows a bit more "wine" in real life. You can see more of my instagram highlights if needed. I'm very impressed with the free pattern, tutorial on the blog and the finished project. I made a couple alterations to the design to make it fit my preferences and isn't that the beauty of sewing your own pieces!! 10/10 on this color and the pattern.
