French painter Pierre Soulages made a career out of painting with shades of black like ANTHRACITE, sweeping it in broad, confident gestures across paper and canvas. His stark, minimal designs nod towards the simple confidence of cave paintings and Japanese calligraphy, with loose marks crisscrossing over one another to create the sensations of depth, space and movement.
New York art dealer Domonique Levy observes the high contrast this black creates, noting, “He’s followed one journey all his life, which has led him more and more towards the light. Despite the fact that they are black, the paintings are all about capturing the light.”

At a heavier weight of 7.1 ounces this 100% linen is referred to as Rustic due to its more textured look and feel. Durable and perfect for projects that require just a bit more substance.

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

gorgeous!

this fabric is amazingly soft and comfortable and has been made into a pair of excellent trousers. my only problem is that it pills like crazy where my thighs rub together.

Incredibly soft

I have purchased many colors of this linen, and even though most of my purchases have the softened finish, this color is much softer than most, right out of the box, without washing. If you are looking for a soft, dark, heavyweight linen, this is the one to buy. I love it.

Annette profile image ANOTHER favorite. :o)

I absolutely LOVE this fabric. It's near black, and yet not so close that all depth or nuance is lost, as it can be on a solid black. I washed/dried it, and it's smooth as silk. There's no limit to what this could be used for. I'm buying more, right after I leave this review - ha! I have a piece of silk/linen laying on my cutting table that has been washed/dried, and this linen is reminiscent of that blend, but it's even SOFTER. It almost has a sheen to it, reminding me of a heavy cupro shirt I got my dad one time to wear to his ship reunion. Every time I walk by this fabric, I crane my neck to look at it again, up close and personal - ha! It REALLY coordinates well with Rim (another of my favorites, a taupe, to my eye).

Combination of Jules shorts with Moroccan legs on a short legged curvy woman in anthracite. The fabric almost feels like flannel it's so soft.
