American painter Robert Ryman made many of his quiet, introspective paintings on biscuit toned backdrops, colored with the same warm, comforting neutral of NEW SAFARI Linen. He interrupted these backgrounds with jarringly fresh shades of arctic white, sometimes skidding like an accident across the picture plane, other times neatly ordered into fenced off squares.
A leading painter of 1960s New York, Ryman straddled a middle ground between the painterliness of Abstract Expressionism and the white, pristine order of Minimalism, combining visceral, tactile mark making with order, repetition and a limited color range of white, beige and brown. “There is never a question of what to paint,” he wrote, “but only how to paint.

A finer quality 5.3 ounce medium weight 58 inch wide 100% linen that is woven with finer threads, and an increased thread count. The higher thread count makes 1C64 shrink less and gives this linen a very smooth and luxurious look and feel, earning it the moniker "luxury linen".

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Love it.

Wonderful warm neutral with undertone of green clay. My search is over for a khaki to compliment my coloring-- honey hair, gold toned skin, blue-green eyes. Love it.

So happy to see more colors in IC64

I love IC64. It's great for bias cut clothing because the number of threads in the warp and the weft are the same. It's soft, too. So I was delighted to be able to buy it in Safari, which is a beautiful warm neutral. I see a pair of loose trousers in the near future!

I chose to make the long sleeve version of the shirt and the shorts version of the trouser pattern in Fabrics-Store's 1C64 softened linen in the color New Safari. This range of linen is similar in weight to their IL019 midweight linen but instead has a tighter weave and the same high thread count along both the warp and the weft, making for a luxuriously soft and smooth hand-feel. New Safari's warm beige tone was a very welcomed addition to my wardrobe, as it fills a neutral color gap.
