IS046 Henri Cobalt / Natural - 73% Linen / 27% Cotton Fabric - Heavy (7.7 oz/yd2), Width 114"
You may have had the pleasure of working with our trickster weave fabrics - the ones that arrive flat and ordinary, but upon first contact with the washer and drier, they shapeshift into something deliciously textured and absolutely unique.
This cloth is 114 inches wide and 7.7 ounces a square yard which qualifies it at the top of the scale of heavyweight fabrics.
Woven with 73% linen to keep us cool and humidity-free and 27% cotton to be fluffier and voluminous.
The fabric arrives flat with subtle patterns that can be seen in the interweaving of the threads. This weaving technique comes with a delightful surprise once it goes through its first wash and dry. It fluffs up everywhere the threads are not interwoven.
To give it the volume the cloth needs to be a textured - the cloth is built to shrink. The styles will pucker differently based on their weave. They will shrink about 8% on the width ( weft going selvage to selvage) of the cloth and about 24% on the length ( warp of the cloth). Shrinkage is based on a warm wash and low-heat dry.
Design created exclusively for F|S - you just pull the fabric out of the drier and feel like a magician.
This wide cloth is perfect for:
- Robes
- Curtains
- Decorative Pillows
- Jackets
- Throws
- Towels
- Picnic and beach blankets
- and, of course, Bedspreads

Customer Questions and Answers
It's true that this double-layer linen looks a little messy for a bedcover after washing, but it is a divine weight and temperature for both winter and summer in my New York apartment. I never wake up hot and sweaty with this cover. And the texture is tamed by a cotton sheet under it. I'm just taking off one star for the appearance.
Despite those who feel this fabric is scratchy & abrasive, we use Our's as much Outdoors as In! It's our "Go To" golf cart seat cover, picnic ground cover and stadium blanket!! Kinda heavy to carry this 2 yds of fabric around, but so very durable & warm. Washes & dries beautifully...I think it gets softer each & every time I do!!
Despite several washings, this fabric remains course and irritating to the touch. It's a good heavy fabric and is no doubt durable, but I can't think of any use for it beyond a pet bed.
Good weight and cozy but...with so many of the fabrics on this site resulting in really great textures (I've bought several) I was a little disappointed in this one. - it just looks rumpled. Now I wish I had purchased the one that shrinks into seersucker-like stripes.
I waited for this to come back. Made a nice bedspread for 1/2 the price of buying one. I bought 4 yards to make a nice-sized bedspread for our queen bed. I really enjoyed working with this. My hubby helped out since it was so much fabric. Made a bedspread in under 2 hours!
I was delighted with the result of this project. I made the spread with a fold-back pillow cover. It required 1 extra yard of material to accomplish the desired look for the fold-back pillow cover when the bed was made.
Lovely fabric! 4yds made a more than ample queen size spread. I hemmed the edges first and washed and dried twice before using. Very breathable bed covering:)
I bought a doggie bag of this to see what it was like, and it's lovely. It would make a lovely throw or kimono style jacket. I will be making two origami bags with my 1/2 yard.
I've bought linen from this shop for years and loved everything I've gotten... everyone I sew for has loved the results as well - until now. This fabric..... I would like to say it's wonderful but can't. The texture is so rough it abraids my skin. This is proving to be the scratchiest fabric I've ever had the misfortune to purchase and feels rough enough to sand wood even after several washings. No idea how I'm to repurpose it but can't see any way to sleep on or under this finished project. The color looked as if a 'new' denim, but has turned out more like faded denim. Sad all around.
