Fluffy, dimensional, and simply a joy to live with - you’ll feel like a sewing maestro when you pull this cloth out of its first dry cycle.

The fabric arrives 84 inches wide, flat and with a subtle basket-like weave. This weaving technique comes with a delightful surprise once it goes through its first wash and dry.

The threads that are woven to make the outside of the squares - they “lift up”.
The threads that are used to weave the inside of the squares - those “drop-down”.

You get a cloth that looks like squares of a freshly made waffle deliciousness. It is just that yummy!

This cloth is wider than our usual selection at 84" wide.  Once it is washed - the cloth will shrink to get that dimensional waffle surface.
Approximate shrinkage - the width of cloth shrinks 17% (weft of the fabric) and 28% on the length ( warp of the fabric). Shrinkage is based on a warm wash and low-heat dry.

Waffle weave cloth is great for:
- Bath towels
- Robes
- Throws
- Duvet covers
- Pillow shams
- Lounge garments
- Decorative pillows
- Curtains
- Beach towels
- Picnic blankets
- items that need to have dimension and softness

The cloth is Softened so we have added a softener to give it a silkier hand. The fabric has not been laundered so shrinkage will still have to be taken into consideration (shrinkage depends on fabric weave and laundering method).

Since this fabric is so wide, how much should I buy to make a man's bathrobe, size medium tall? thank you

Elisabeth • November 9, 2024
Lauren profile image F|S Team

Hello, this fabric shrinks down to 61" wide after washing, so we recommend getting the suggested yardage for your pattern plus shrinkage for the length only.

Making a throw with this fabric. Shall I wash it first or can I stitch it first and then washing it? Would like to avoid stretched edges. Thank you.

To avoid stretched or rippled edges, you can wash the fabric first, then hem.

I'm just about to start a robe out of the waffle fabric. What is the best seam construction? Serge or a French seam? Thank you

Jill • October 16, 2023
Lauren profile image F|S Team

Hello, Serging is most appropriate as the fabric can be too bulky to create a small french seam.

Has anyone embroidered a monogram on this fabric? If so, did you prewash before stitching it out?

Linda • September 15, 2023
Lauren profile image F|S Team

Yes many of our customers have monogrammed this fabric or applied other machine embroidery to this fabric. The best results were achieved when the fabric was pre-washed and embroidered with the fabric lightly flattened out and with a tear away backing and a layer of water soluble stabiliser on the top.

I'm excited to try this but am a bit confused by the shrinkage figures. How much of this would I need to make a coverlet for my king bed? Would I need to edge it in a different linen to cover the width of the bed completely with a pretty standard depth mattress?

Elisabeth • July 19, 2023
Lauren profile image F|S Team

We recommend 8 yards total, which you will need to cut into panels to make it wide enough for a queen sized bed. Generally our customers prefer to have the width of one 4 yard piece as the center panel, and cut the remaining 4 yards in two for the two side panels.

Do you have other linen suitable for bedding in the pebble color? I want to add length to the waffle fabric after washing.

Merry • March 21, 2023
Maureen profile image F|S Team

The safari color in the IL019 or 4C22 would be the color to look at to coordinate with the Pebble. We have samples for purchase to see which weight would work better for you, both are used for bedding it just depends on your preference.

Beverly • March 18, 2023

Yes some of our customers have used the waffle for kitchen towels and embroider after sewing and laundering the towels.

If you dry clean this fabric instead of laundering it, does it still produce the waffle effect? From the photos it looks interesting as a flat fabric too.

Jc • February 26, 2023
Maureen profile image F|S Team

The waffle plumps up with washing, since dry cleaning generally involves pressing it would not have the same effect but to be sure you would want to take a piece to the dry cleaner to make sure their process will keep the waffle flat.

Varying results

The first time I bought this fabric was from the Doggie Bags. I made a couple of bath towels and some smaller towels. It washed up nice and tight and nubby. We really liked it, so next time I saw it on sale I bought enough for 4 bath towels. This batch didn't shrink up nearly as tight and nubby as the first batch. I was disappointed but can't really do anything about it since it's been washed and cut.

Hello, We're sorry fi you're latest batch hasn't shrunk up as much as your first. We haven't experienced any difference in shrinkage, so you may need to wash the towels again to ensure they're completely shrunk. They may also need more room in the wash to completely submerge in water too, which helps activate the shrinkage. Please email us directly if your towels are still refusing to shrink up, we'd be happy to investigate further.

Both my cat, Sylvester and my windows love this fabric

After making curtains - they were too long- I cut off the bottoms, doubled over, I left the pieces on the floor, and when I returned, Sylester the cat was asleep on the small pieces. He will not give them up to the other two cats. So I am purchasing another yard, to make him a proper bed.

Awesome fabric!

This fabric is so easy to sew on and it's very forgiving, as a little crooked or uneven seam doesn't show a bit! It's delightful waiting for it to come out of the dryer and see how it transforms. Absolutely love all of your linens and I think I've tried every type.

I made this for my daughter's MIL so didn't add belt loops. I'll include them when mailing so she can add them to her waist length. Capucine pattern included yardage to use after pre washing the fabric so sizing was not a guess. I added linen facing to make it special and...longer to construct.

Mary • February 27, 2023

And this is Sylvester, happy on his waffle bed.

Dr Lucille • November 27, 2022

FS CAPUCINE Bathrobe made with FS PEBBLE Waffle Weave. Washing both shrinks and forms the texture of waffle weave linen. For this reason, I would recommend sizing up on the pattern to make sure you don't end up with sleeves that are too short.
