IL085 Navel Orange is a Jacquard cloth created by weaving different color threads to create intricate patterns - or paintings woven with thread. This particular design carries a pattern of oranges, leaves, and blossoms surrounded by symmetrical borders.

The engineering of this cloth allows the Jacquard to be read equally well from either side - you have a reversible fabric that changes its dominant color scheme depending on what side you pick.

The bright colors add a modern aesthetic to this classical pattern allowing items made from this cloth to be right at home in traditional as well as modern interiors. Design created exclusively for F|S

IL085 is woven out of the same long-staple wet-combed 100% linen thread we use to weave everyone's favorite All-Purpose medium weight IL019. However, because it needed to be thicker for towels, it has a 16% higher thread count and therefore a heavier weight of 6.8 ounces a square yard.

This fabric is narrow at 20" wide with a finished selvage - this allows you to spend less time cutting and sewing and get to the fun part of using your items sooner. Because this cloth is woven using the same size thread with nearly an identical thread count for warp and weft - the fabric will have even shrinkage of 8% both for length and width. Shrinkage is based on a warm wash and low-heat dry.

This fabric is 100% linen ( flax) and has received rigorous Oeko-Tex certification ensuring that the items are biodegradable, recyclable, and free of harmful toxins or irritants.

Narrow width does take some creative adjusting.

Narrow cloth is perfect for:

  • Bags
  • Placemats and napkins
  • Runners
  • Decorative Pillows
  • Appliance Covers
  • Potholders
  • Aprons
  • and, of course, Kitchen Towels ( these will leave no lint on glass and are great for fine china and crystal)

I am looking for a linen twill. Will you ever be offering something like that?

The closest we have to a twill weave is our French Ticking Normandy Collection.

The pictures of the finished dish towels show a horizontal border. How often does that repeat? I don't see it in the description or the image of the fabric. Thank you.

This group only has the border running vertically on both sides. The way to the picture was taken and the item is folded does make it look like there is horizontal border, but for this group the border is only on the selvedges.

Beautiful, Soft, and Very Absorbent Kitchen Towels

I Made a extra long kitchen towel with this fabric. I love it. It adds great color to the kitchen. The fabric is very soft on the hands plus it is very absorbent. And it is Beautiful!

Beautiful

I made dishtowels, of course, from the Green Parrot and Blue Jay colors. They are just gorgeous. However, I like the 7.1 oz toweling better, it's more tightly woven, these feel a little wobbly. It's strictly a texture kind of thing. My husband has these in his bar, he loves color more than me and he won't take mine from the kitchen. I dry these on a drying rack, they look like they're ironed.

poor quality

This is the first time I have been disappointed with the linen I have purchased from F/S. The general quality is poor. I had to pull threads to true the fabric. (One pull I lost 2 inches!) The amount of lint!!! (7 wash/damp dry!) (The heavy weight jacquard I have purchased only needed five...) Salvages that were frayed. Between the three colors offered I purchased 12 yards. I have wasted my time and money and now I have Christmas gifts that I am embarrassed to give.

Too much lint

I can't believe no one else has mentioned the amount of lint that is generated by this fabric when washed. Far worse than any other fabric I've purchased here. Clumps of lint remain in the washing machine, and big clumps of lint attach to the fabric as well. I washed and machine dried the fabric three times, and it was still covered with lint.

Pillow covers for my outdoor living room

I can't bear the thought of them in the kitchen - this fabric is perfect for pillow covers for my outdoor living room. Easy to coordinate with other colors of different weights for this room as well. Stunning fabric.

The linen was easy to work with. If any criticism at all, would be nice to have a design that is somewhat centered for folding in thirds to be able to hang nicely. 3yds for 4 kitchen linen. I'm very happy with the way they turned out, however, have not washed yet. When I do, I will wash in cold water and hang almost dry before pressing. They are for a Guesthouse.

This is the amount of lint out of the lint trap from 8 yards of fabric (hand used for scale of lint ball :) The washing machine used is a front loading washer, with regular wash cycle on warm water; followed with regular dry cycle on low heat. No lint was left over in the drum of the washing machine and that was the only lint from the drier. Linen is a natural fiber that does lint and the more agitation the cloth undergoes in the wash/dry - the more lint it will produce. Top loading washing machines tend to be more aggressive as are certain wash settings ( like for bedding or towels). Rougher washes/dries cause more fiber agitation and damage the linen thread which shows up as extra lint that was basically beaten out of the fabric. Using a gentle cycle like Delicates or low tumble will prevent the cloth from excessive agitation and reduce linting.

Made some dish towels as Christmas gifts. Turned under on the long sides instead of leaving the selvedge - I think it finishes them off nicely. Very happy with how they turned out!
